ooc: Occurs after
Yuugao's fight,
Nejiko's fight, and any other fights... that is, this is where you end up when you're ready to go home
Haku pulled the pillow off her head with a sigh. The alarm was so loud there was no hope of ignoring it, let alone sleeping through it. With a small frown, she got up and pulled on her yukata. She slipped her feet into her shoes and tousled her hair a bit, letting fall freely on her shoulders. A quick glance in the mirror told her she was presentable enough. She opened the door and walked outside.
Oto-nin were running about in a panic. They were so noisy that she didn't need to ask what was going on, she got the general gist of it based on what they were yelling about. Intruders, from Konoha, one was already found but they were looking for the other three. Thankfully in all the mayhem, no one stopped or even noticed her. She slipped past the people in the hall, acting like she knew exactly where she was going.
In reality, she had no destination. She was wandering and at the same time hunting, looking for any signs of an intruder. It didn't take long to pick up a trail, years of evading hunter-nin had given her an advantage in situations like this. She followed the faint chakra signature, darting through the halls while making sure she wasn't followed. By the time she could see the enemy nin, she was not only certain that they were the only ones here but also sure that she hadn't been noticed by the intruder.
Haruhi was following protocol to the letter. She had been separated from the group so her first action had been to find a good hiding spot. As the medic of the group, she knew her survival was important to the mission's success. And she knew that she was the weakest of the group. Trying to stand and fight would have been foolish. Her best hope was to hold tight and hope that the others found her.
She shifted her weight on her feet and caught movement out of the corner of her eye. Reacting instinctively, she pulled a kunai out and prepared for an attack. In the blink of an eye, she felt her entire body hit the wall, the kunai clattered useless to the ground. She let out a small sound of pain and looked at her attacker.
"Konoha," Haku said, looking at the girl's forehead protector. "So... the panic is justified."
Haruhi blinked once, then twice, and finally matched the girl's face to the one in the picture. "You're her! The one we're supposed to find."
"Find and kill?" Haku asked quickly, trying to ignore how much her heart raced with that statement. If that were true, it meant Zabuya-sama was dead and they had come to finish her off. But if that was true, then the Konoha intruders had little to worry about from the Oto-nin. Haku would get to them first.
"No!" Haruhi answered quickly. "No, we're supposed to bring you back. It was part of the deal with Zabuya."
Haku started a bit but didn't loosen her grip. She swallowed once. "Is she... is she alive?" she whispered.
The medic-nin nodded. "But in a coma. Hokage-sama will revive her as soon as we bring you back."
Haku paused for a moment and glared at the other girl. "If the rest of your team is bad at stealth as you are, we're going to have a problem."
Haruhi glared back, tapping her foot against Haku's leg. She looked down at the sudden coolness on her skin, finding that a blade protruding from the medic's sandal was resting against her calf. The bit of black on the metal was most likely poison.
"I can hold my own," Haruhi managed though her voice didn't sound as confident as she wanted.
Haku let her go, turning to the door. Despite her desire to leave right away, Haku knew the way Konoha nin operated. The medic nin wouldn't leave until she had the rest of her team. "We should head to one of the security hubs," Haku stated. "There are cameras throughout the facility and we can search for the rest of your team with them. If we're really lucky we'll find them on the way."
Haruhi nodded slowly, still not entirely sure she could trust the strange girl. But the little information Konoha had on her said most of her actions were based on loyalty to her master. So long as Haruhi and the other Konoha nin had that carrot to dangle in front of her, the girl could probably be trusted.
Probably.
Haruhi fell quickly into step behind Haku, following her steps exactly and hoping that they'd find someone else from the team soon.
