*Thanks for coming by when you were busy,
vureoelt! Good luck at the races this weekend!
*Given that Haruhi is floating in an endless pointless plotless loop, and Umineko is zooming through plot points as fast as it can to occasionally comedic effect, I vote Kyo-ani and Studio Deen switch projects for a more efficient use of resources.
Well, I really just want to see Episode 4's Tea Party animated with the enthusiasm and inventiveness of Nagato vs. Asakura in the original anime series.. Oh well. There are some fantastic artists in the fandom on Pixiv, I guess I should be satisfied with that ^^;
I can't wait for the DVD sales figures for Endless Eight though.
*I reread a bunch of the Violinist of Hameln manga lately since people were talking about the sequel on Twitter. Er. I really like it but the themes of the story bother me a LOT.
Why do Flute and Raiel and Tron keep having to forgive and understand Hamel and Sizer??? Shouldn't we at least get a scene just ONCE where Hamel has to earn Flute's love and forgiveness? And I don't mean by saving her from demons, I mean by not being an asshole for ten minutes. Jeez. Yeah he has a ridiculously angsty past and doesn't know how to deal with people, but he could at least NOTICE the kinds of things that upset her, and you know, not do them anymore? Especially after he's stopped trying to chase her away?
It has the same Catholicism-on-overdrive feel as the second disc of Xenogears (yes, I'm aware that the final boss in that game is God) when you had scenes like Elly offering to be EATEN to stop the suffering of people suffering from a zombie plague. Flute also sacrifices her lifespan over and over again to save everyone. Not to mention how many times Raiel almost dies - he either gets forced to crossdress or nearly dies in every single serious scene he's in (I'm not counting the nosebleeds, btw XD). He's my favorite character but good grief. He has to forgive the massacre of his entire village AND nearly gets killed over and over again. For what?
Besides all those forgiveness scenes seem wrong to me. If person A hits person B, then person C doesn't have the authority to forgive A for that sin. I can understand cases like Anthem where it really WAS unintentional, but Sizer at the very least killed thousands of people and she knew what she was doing.
And that's setting aside the question of what kind of person could - would be emotionally capable of forgiving their family's murderer. Tron joining the party still seems weird to me. Grudging acceptance? OK. Hugging Sizer? Sure it warms the reader's heart but... :/
I dunno. Why do some people in this manga have to be endlessly forgiving and some people can sin again and again and just say "Oops"? I'm sorry but the "Endless Power of Love" in this manga just seems wrong. It's either humanly impossible or approaching Stockholm Syndrome.
....I still like this manga. I just think the author is amazingly messed up.
I don't how to say this, I guess I find it moving and a good story (except when the violence is just TOO much) but strongly disagree with the lesson the author seems to want to teach. It's good to see the main characters forgive each other and overcome the past, but it seems like so much to overcome... I don't know.
Also I've apparently forgotten how to write coherently since starting to Twitter. Drat. I knew this would happen!!
