Title: All Matters Left Unresolved
Author:
morningafter2Fandom: Xena: Warrior Princess
Word Count: 306
Rating: G, because that's just how my brain works
Pairing: If we want to be really technical about this, none. It's just general. One would not be wholly unreasonable to argue that because it is Xena and Gabrielle (who are femslash-y by their very nature), and because femslash is what I typically write, something of the sort could be read into this. But if that is possible, I have not figured out how.
Disclaimer: No idea who owns Xena and Gabrielle, but it isn't me.
Notes: Set directly in the pilot episode.
You've got to take me with you, and teach me everything you know. You can't leave me here. There is something resembling desperation in the girl's voice as she entreaties Xena. How ironic, it seems to her, that after so many years of forcibly removing people from their homes, often from the mortal plane itself, this girl should come along and offer herself to the danger shrouding Xena.
Of course, that isn't what she's signing up for. The girl thinks her life will be full of adventure and excitement, if only she can get away from her sleepy little village. She may or may not know the extent of Xena's well-earned reputation. Her father certainly does, and the rest of the village doesn't seem to be without a clue.
Xena does feel some semblance of sympathy for the girl, living with her overbearing father, betrothed to a man she clearly feels nothing for. She understands that the girl is simply grasping for the first opportunity to rid herself of this village that presents itself to her. It is almost enough for Xena to consider giving the girl a ride to the nearest city before returning to Amphipolis, until her brain kicks in and reminds her that life in the cities is no better for a young woman on her own, and that she has never been particularly good with company. Especially that of the chatty variety, a category to which this girl almost certainly belongs.
Xena puts on her best smile, slightly menacing but not wholly threatening, and warns the girl to stay away. The girl's expression seems to indicate that on some level, she understands, even if she does not accept it happily, though as Xena walks out, she is sure she hears the girl muttering the name of her hometown under her breath.
