Date Last Night
Well, I went out with the Italian guy last night. Just met for coffee and spent about two hours talking. He was very sweet, but I'm not sure it would work out. Things I liked:
1. He could carry on a conversation and we didn't seem to be searching for topics.
2. He was cute - goatee, dark hair and eyes, hairy chest (like manly men!).
3. He seemed to like me a LOT.
4. He has a job and a relatively new car which was very clean.
5. He's a part-time Ebay seller and seems serious about financial stability.
Things I didn't like:
1. He's Muslim and I'm not. Not that I have a problem with that faith, I don't. But he talked about it A LOT and I definitely believe that faith issues can be very divisive.
2. He said on his profile that he was 5'10" (same as me) but he was clearly only about 5'8". Now I don't care about him being shorter than I, but he mentioned twice "Yeah, we're about the same height, aren't we?" So I think HE has an issue with me being taller than him. Seems minor, but some guys just have problems with that.
3. He said on his profile that he was 38, but last night said he was 35. I asked him to clarify and he said it was a typo and went on to explain in detail that the 8 is just above the 5 on the keypad and that's probably why that happened. I don't care that he's way younger than I (I'm very young at heart!) but I don't feel comfortable with the defensiveness.
4. He seemed to like me a LOT. I know - this should be good, right? But he mentioned that the last girl he dated needed to see other men and he didn't like that. He wanted to be sure that my ultimate goal was marriage. Hey, look, I just met you and I am not about to commit to you, OK? Why can't we just be friends and see what happens?
5. He just moved back here from Chicago and is living with his friend. I don't know - just seems to me that at 35 he should be a little more established?
6. He's a part-time Ebay seller and he had a bunch of watches in his car. He's wearing a Rolex (?).
So, help me out here. One of the things I always do is date a guy ONCE and decide I just don't want to see him again because he doesn't "fit my criteria." My ex says it's because he was such a lousy husband and I'm gun-shy. I like to think it's because I was in a crappy marriage for 17 years, I know what I want, and I'm not willing to settle.
