Friend Networks and a Side of Awww

Feb 12, 2005 03:33

I've been a member of Friendster for a while. Not that I bother to go very often; my profile is almost certainly quite out-of-date and I've never uploaded a picture. The message boards seem spammy and pointless to me and the search function is crap. I could find little use for it and it lost its 'oooh, shiny new service' lustre after about a fortnight.

In the last fortnight, though, I've gotten three invites to join other friend networks. One was from wendolen inviting me to join OKCupid, another was from scuba inviting me to join Hi5 (I wonder if the owners know that's a pre-school kiddie band in the UK?) and the last was avariael inviting me to join SMS.ac.

So, in the interests of wasting even more time that I can't actually afford to waste, I've joined them all. I haven't bothered filling out the profiles yet for the former two and I probably won't until I decide if these services are really worth it; I filled out part of the profile on the latter, but I don't quite understand it. What exactly does it cost me and how do they charge? Does signing up with them mean that people can email me text messages on my mobile?

For reference, I'm narnee on OKCupid (but can't actually explore it until I get a new computer as it crashes every single one of my browsers), here on Hi5 (and you can join here to be connected directly to my personal network) and here on SMS.ac.

Also, I've been checking out 140205 fairly regularly -- even for someone as cynical as myself, I find it incredibly sweet. It's so nice to see some of you and yours getting so many valentines.
