So I was reading a friend's journal and someone mentioned Mormons and something about marriage (or maybe I imagined that part)... Anyway, that got me to thinking about Islam and our (their?) perceptions on polygamy.
Technically, it's allowed for a man to have up to four wives if and only if he treats and loves them all equally. Now, I can see how it might be feasible to treat them all equally, but no one, and I mean NO ONE is unbiased enough to love people in equal amounts. Sure, we may love each other, but it is definitely not all equal parts of our hearts. Even the Prophet (pbuh) wasn't perfect and had favorites among his (I think it was twelve) wives.
Technically, you're not supposed to take more than one wife if you think you won't be able to treat and love them equally. Technically, you're not allowed to marry more than one wife without the consent of the first wives.
Then I think about many of the Muslims I've seen and read about, especially in the Islam-dominated- and -governed-countries. Many men (including at least one of my uncles, which I still don't understand or like) take on one or two more wives despite what the first one thinks and despite their lack of equal treatment/love.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that it bugs me how people twist the holy books for their own purposes, whether it's regarding marriage, treatment of women, treatment of other religions, treatment of their own people, or treatment of the religion itself and its rituals. Pretty much: people are manipulative and look only for their own gain. Of course, I've met individuals who are not like this at all, but the amount of that type of people compared to the manipulative, khud garz (goddamn, I can't think of the translated word for this >.<) people is very few.
Also, I don't like this "fall back, spring forward" thing. It's the twenty-first century and we are not an agriculturally-dominated world! We really don't need to change the time every spring and fall! I don't like that it's really 11:30 and it feels much earlier.
Also, also! I am currently (for a few weeks now e.e) working on a new, Bollywood-themed icon set! Go check out what I have so far
