Luna had taken refuge in her dorm room since Friday, trying to figure out what exactly had gone wrong.

She'd checked all her reference books and textbooks from home and found nothing.

So she had sent a few letters with a restless Abelard to her father, a quick note ( Read more... )

Chris and Peri's trip to town for cookies had turned into dinner and cookies and ice cream before they finally headed back to the dorms and knocked on Luna's door.

Luna set the necklace down on her desk and went to open the door. Upon seeing Chris and a little she was, at best, confused. "Yes? Hello?"

"MUM!" Peri bounded through the door and flung her arms about Luna's middle. "Dad gave me cookies!"

"Oh? Were they good biscuits?" Luna was working on processing the shout of MUM and focused on the cookie comment. Sanity lay in sweet treats. She looked at Chris questioningly.

"This is apparently our daughter, Peri," Chris explained. "I met her in the park."

"Pleased to meet you, Peri." Luna patted the girl in her arms. She was trying to wrap her mind around Chris' statement as such, she could not stop the question "do you find children there often?" from falling from her lips.

"No, not usually," Chris said, chuckling. "Apparently it's a thing. There's a bunch of kids running around."

He didn't mention the fact that he apparently had a kid with his roommate at the moment.

"Mum?" Peri asked. "Dad says that you're not the Mum and Dad I'm used to. Do you know how to send me back?"

"So, an island thing?" Luna asked, not exactly expecting an answer.

Luna looked down at the little girl who was only seven or eight inches shorter than she, "that depends on many things, such as, where did you come from?"

"San Francisco," Peri said. "We live there most of the time, but we spend the summers in England. And you said after I get my wand I can either come here to school or go to Hogwarts."

"How old are you that you are already thinking of purchasing a wand?" Luna asked. Then she explained in a way she expected Peri might understand, "San Francisco is not nearby. I have not yet an apparition license and that would be a very long broom ride. Would you mind very much staying with your father and I while we try to figure something out?"

"I'm eight!" Peri said. "And I can do small magics on my own already."

Chris grinned at her. "She can orb, too," he said.

"Not too long till Ollivander's then. Small magics? Which do you like best?" Luna looked from daughter to father and asked,"the not-appariting you a few weeks ago, yes?"

"I like creatures very well, and I like the little broom Granddad gave me but I can't use it at home 'cause of all the muggles. I could probably use it here!" Peri smiled, "if I had it with me that is."

Chris chuckled a little. "You have to be careful about using your magic anywhere, Peri," he said. "And you can't ever use it for personal gain.

Not like he hadn't learned that lesson the hard way.
