Fright Night

So for the lighthearted third movie of Rocktober, I elected to watch the 1985 classic Fright Night. Teenager Charley Brewster realizes his new next door neighbor is a vampire and is luring prostitutes to their deaths. Trouble is, no one will believe him! After calling the cops-and I’m so glad he did, even though they laughed in his face, since so often characters don’t even try to seek out mundane law enforcement-Charley contacts Peter Vincent: Vampire Killer, host and star of the late night vampire show “Fright Night”. Peter Vincent has never encountered a real vampire, and like everyone else, doesn’t believe Charley at first. This movie should have been perfect. There was the obnoxious best friend, the girlfriend, the oblivious mom who invites the handsome vampire in for drinks, lots of pre-CGI awesome gore effects…but this movie lacked something, a sparkle that makes The Lost Boys one of my very favorite movies. I can’t put my finger on if it’s the cast or the writing or what, but it was missing something that made it just a mediocre movie in my mind. I laughed, I winced, but I don’t think I need to be seeing this one again. Roddy McDowell’s Peter Vincent was totally the best part of this movie. In the 2011 remake, he will be played by David Tennant. That makes me a little excited about the remake, but the fact that it exists is vaguely annoying. I want NEW horror movies. Both Last House on the Left and a Tale of Two Sisters have remakes, what is it about the horror genre that’s so susceptible to remakes and reboots? They’re very rarely as good as the originals (except Piranha 3-D, my #1 movie of 2010). Fun fact: This guy

went on to star in such pictures as “Guys who Crave Big Cocks” “Cock Pit” “Leather Buddies” and “Latin Crotch Rockets”. Thanks, IMDB!
