On the way home from school today I realized I forgot to tell anyone this happened. I forget what we were talking about, but I remember I was trying not to die from boredom, and it was probably right before dessert, but my mom starts bringing up school. So then I tell them what I had my students do this semester, and I don't remember what prompted it, but my mom said this:
"Ashley doesn't watch much TV."
I almost choked on my wine. Like, seriously? Do you know me at all, woman? My favorite part was when I tried to correct her, she said, "No, you love books and movies. You've never* been much of a TV person." When I tried to tell her the magnitude of her wrongness she was just like, whatever, I think I know more about you than you do, I am so your mother. I didn't bother to correct her further. I think she might have keeled over from shock if I told her just how much TV her non-TV watching daughter actually watches. My Netflix queue alone would probably be cause for a lecture.
But what are you gonna do? Mothers, they know everything.
*My other favorite part is that when I was in high school, I would watch TV while I did my homework, so I watched at least seven hours of TV a day. That's like forty-nine hours a week.
