❧ Dream| 001 [Open]

The dream takes place some time ago, back when Clovis was about sixteen years old. Said prince, except for a foot or two in height, isn't much changed from his older counterpart. He is alone in his own lavish room, clearly involved with his new painting that is coming out very well.

But this dream isn't about the painting, but surprisingly about the cat lounging by the chair near him. One thing that must be stated about this cat, whose name is Guinevere, is that it is- or was- an extremely stupid animal.

The pretty white cat jumped into Clovis' lap, mewling for attention. He carried it out of his lap.

"Go to Euphie," He said to the Guinevere, "She likes cats." And the prince continued his painting, trying to ignore the cat. It was insistent: purring against his legs, scratching at the chair, mewling so loud it almost sounded like it was screeching. Finally, Clovis had enough. He got up from his painting and looked through a basket nearby for the catnip toy. The cat's attention was immediately diverted to this new toy. Clovis sat back down, and without looking where he was throwing, threw the toy. Had he looked, he would've saw the toy heading straight out the window. What happened next was something he did not anticipate.

The cat followed after the toy.

It would've been fine if he was on the bottom floor, but Clovis liked heights and his room was the highest one in the palace. It was a good three stories off the ground. He didn't realize his mistake until he heard a horrible screeching sound that started and was cut off abruptly.

The cat didn't make it.

Clovis rushed to the window and looked down. "Oh dear,..." He whispered, before shutting the window. He stood for a moment, thinking of what he should, when a knock tapped the door. He hesitantly opened the door, but relaxed when he saw Euphie staring up at him.

"Euphie, would you like to go to the kitchen and get some sweets?" He said quickly, and before the poor girl could reply, she was almost dragged to the dining room.

It was later revealed that the cat was one of the Emperor's courtesans' pets. The cat had a royal burial.

The general consensus was that the death of Guinevere was a suicide.

[Wakes up with a groan. He plops back down to his pillow.]

I guess this is why I never liked cats.
