So you know how I was asking for Vorkosigan fic recs the other day?
Yeah, that did mean I was wrestling with the temptation of writing a Vorkosific myself.
And no, I never meant to let myself get past the idea. Because I know I'm untrustworthy like 'woah' when it comes to getting writing done, and need to concentrate on projects.
But
pharnabazus wanted to hear more.
And I've got about 5,000 words of a Vorkosific on my hands. In terms of what I've previously written, it's more like '1975' than anything else. Multiple POVs, characters just out of and still in their teens. Family back stories. A bit of romance. Tragedy. It's great stuff to write.
The premise stems from Lois McMaster Bujold's own question for constructing an interesting plot. "What's the worst thing I can do to these characters?" Well, imagine 'The Warrior's Apprentice' with Miles actually committing treason instead of just being accused of it.
The story of Aral Alexander Vorkosigan's bid for the Imperium, and the Civil War it brought about, is under way.
