I don't write the songs

BabyGirl is 4 today! w00t!

Everything else is all movie/musical in my life.
Festival Express - a documentary of a train trip across Canada with the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, The Band, Buddy Guy, Sha-Na-Na, and a few others. Janis Joplin singing "Cry Baby" sent shivers up my spine. She was sexy as hell, maybe not the prettiest woman, but pretty is worth nothing vs sexy. The Band still stuns me, 3 really crappy voices individually, but amazing harmony, even when you could see they were too fucked up to remember all the words or their cues.

For Love of Country - Andy Garcia as Arturo Sandoval and Charles Dutton as Dizzy Gillespie. Reminded me of all the Cuban greats that my dad used to force me to listen to. Even had to stand up to do that goofy ass jazz dance that jazz freaks all seem to know. Movie was "eh", it was apparently made for TV, so no one expects much, but the music was awesome.

Buena Vista Social Club - Ry Cooder went to Cuba (illegally) and assembled as many of the Cuban greats that he could, those that were still alive, and filled in the blanks with other musicians. I turned it on the first time and hear "Ti Mon Bo", a Tito Puentes tune. So of course, the spirit of Tito was invoked, so I hadta watch. The movie, the music, everything was phenomenal, I only had a problem with a segment of Ry Cooder's son walking around Havana staring at doors with a look on his face that said "when the fuck are these cameramen gonna stop filming me looking at goddamn doors?!" Ry Cooder was charged $25k for illegally travelling to Cuba. Worth every penny, and I'd open my wallet if I thought he needed it. Oh, and "Chavez Ravine" by Cooder is worth a listen.

Lets see, latest listenings... Common "Be", Wolf Parade, The New Pornographers, Kanyes new one, The Bees, Thelonius Monk at Carnegie Hall w/ John Coltrane, Hot Hot Heat, Ibrahim Ferrer, Fiona Apple's newest, Zero 7, and Engineers.

Since I hate music critics for being either too critical, or ass-kissers, I might have to write my own.
