I feel like a battle survivor. I'm still deaf - painfully so. There was a time when all our hearing was so messed up that everyone's voices sounded like they had just sucked helium.
But yeah - to try and give this some coherence, I'll start from the beginning. Got out of school early, crammed four of us in the back of the car, got to the Tabernacle around five thirty. Waited in line till about six twenty, then went in and decided to stake a spot on the floor. General admission, ya know. To start off with we were about maybe five feet from the stage, and right at the far end. So close, so awesome - didn't need glasses ^^ That situation was okay for the first two bands - Permanent Me and Early November, who were both pretty cool. We managed to move over quite a bit - at least some of us.
Then came New Found Glory. Holy crap, I did not know their fans were that crazy. This was the beginning of the crazy surges that pushed you four feet in one direction only to push you right back the other way - a situation you could possibly manipulate to your advantage. NFG was okay. I don't really like them. But it was certainly exciting. Like they were beating you up with their music. You couldn't help but be involved. And the standing situation - oh my god, sometimes it was so bad you couldn't move. Not even to lift your arms. You were squished by people on all sides, eating hair, getting elbowed, sometimes precariously balanced. And there were the fat people, the booty dancers, the drunks, the too-quick-to-anger. Ugh. Needless to say, we were separated at various points. Meg and I were close, then she was to the left and Jess and I were clinging to eachother, then Brittany was completely gone somewhere to the right, then Jess found her but Meg and I were adrift. It was insane. Like drowning in a stormy sea.
I was pretty deep in, center-ish and close to the railing, before Fall Out Boy. Between NFG and them was this obnoxious twenty minute pause where I couldn't move, or breathe, and I was thirsty and everyone was bitching. And there was some fucking drunk asshole guy behind me, and a guy in front, and there was constant rap music and a humongous girl dancing against my back - so yeah, about a song or two into Fall Out Boy, things got even more violent, and I was outta there - repositioned more right near Jess and Brittany. As for FOB's performance - got to hear two new songs, and several good old ones. Of course they were awesome. Love them all. And we were the first ones to find out they changed their cd's release to next week :). <3, even if the situation was crazy. I dropped my jacket at some point, but Jess found it afterwards. I'm sure it was well trampled.
But yeah...last rambling points...barfing people, dehydrated people, fights, drunks, body surfing, ripped out earrings - if I hadn't been holding my hair, there's no question - I would be dead. I hurt everywhere as it is. I wouldn't be surprised if I'm bruised. And yeah...we stood for five or six hours O.O So...I won't be doing this again next time - maybe eventually, but the violence and molestation should be saved for special occasions.
Suffice it to say, I hate people even more, if that's possible. But my friends are awesome, and so is music, so...it was worth it. Very nice to be so very close, really, but that's a price I'm only willing to pay every once in a while. Okay. I'm dead now. BWAP.
