since my brain is doing that FIVE MILLION THINGS OMG thing I will give you one thing:
[6] that is the kind of peace Gates accepted she would never, ever have again after she realised what she'd been chosen to be, along with all the other Slayers that are now active in her world. except it's kind of that acceptance where you're like "Well, I totally won't......................but I want to, secretly, in my tiny tiny hidden away heart of hearts that NOBODY EVER GETS TO SEE except maybe you."
so she might think if she could keep Stefan alive long enough to give him that even if she didn't get it herself, that would be badass, although I'm pretty sure if she managed to do so she'd...have it also. yes. words! anyway, peace is nice, people who live basically in order to make other things die until they do (violently) usually don't get it, and Gates thinks that should be something she can punch.
i lied! also [10], so. Gates obvs disagrees about "can never have", but at the same time like...sacred duties and responsibilities and we've observed that in some ways, she's a much more textbook Slayer than Buffy -- ALTHOUGH I will qualify this, I think, in that she's not so much a textbook Slayer as she is, basically, a Watcher who can kick more ass than other Watchers, because she doesn't go by the Slayer textbook so much as the Watcher one, just plus 75% more getting her own hands dirty. not that Watchers have especially clean hands. ANYWAY my point was, if when it inevitably comes down to choosing between her and his duty/sept etc etc and so on and so forth, if he chose that over her, she'd...get it. which isn't to say she would be remotely okay with it or let it go easily or really even be remotely cooperative (gates, cooperative, AHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA). just...she'd get why, kind of, because she doesn't have the Council to be loyal to, but she has lines that don't get crossed for anyone.
