Well, I'm nearing the end of A Clash with Kings, and even though I hear nothing but good things about the next book, I find myself going through that little bit of sadness that I get when I get near a book I've enjoyed a lot. It made you happy, you really looked forward to the time you spent with it each day, but it's done now and it's time to move on. I felt the same way after the first book, and the second book filled the gap nicely, so this minor sadness will no doubt be short-lived.
What I seem to be enjoying most about the books is the vividness of the characters. This is the first series in a long, long time where I feel like the characters are living, breathing, sometimes terribly flawed, and evolving beings. It's rare that I want to reach into the pages and just strangle a character, but this guys does it well.
Now, if he can just get the next books out before I finish the ones I have...
