Relationships
If you should be here and you're not, I messed up. Ping me.
If you aren't here and you want to be here, ping me.
If you are here and you shouldn't be here... wait wat
11/Hazar: An excitable idiot. Tries to sound smart, but fails to recognize the base ideas behind conversations so fails. Also, can girls even be that tall...?
B: A bit of a weirdo. Akagi doesn't particularly like him. Learned English with B's machine.
Batou: Claiming not to fear death brought him up a few points in Akagi's books, but he was brought down again when he accused Akagi of thinking he was better than other people. He's Auntie Kusanagi's friend, and is amusing to mess around with.
Belle (Angela): (+) She took him up on his challenge, and pulled him out of his horrible mood. Even better, she didn't back out of her side of the deal when she lost (well, kind of. One hand is good enough.) Akagi definitely respects her for this.
Celeste: She's clinging to life, even after it's not worth clinging to.
Chase: Kind of dumb, but amusing. Jane's friend?
Christine: Erol's girlfriend/wife/woman?
Conan: A little shrimp of a kid who is smarter than he should be at his age from what he's gathered from the kid's other conversations. Akagi's been friendly to him so far, and may have use for him in the future.
Daniella: A maid of some sort. She's really polite and she makes good food, which is all that really matters in a woman, isn't it?
Eon: lol eunuch.
Erol: (+) He could tell immediately by the way Erol spoke that he was different than most people. He likes Erol: he's interesting, he doesn't judge Akagi for the way he thinks and he doesn't try to use him for his own personal gain. Erol knows Akagi's type as well as Akagi knows his, and some of the things he has said have really shaken Akagi. Erol is one of the few people Akagi will actively seek out for company.
Jak: Is a God or something? Whatever. Erol seems to like getting under his skin.
Jane: (+) Akagi honestly doesn't understand half of what she says, but he thinks it's just a culture barrier. He thinks she's the blood thirsty kind, and even though he knows she's not like him, she's closer than a lot of people. Thought she was a boy until he saw her in a dress. She's the closest thing he has to a friend his age right now.
Janelle: A pretty lady who seems to have taken a liking to him for his gambling skills. She isn't bad herself, for a woman.
Jared: He's big. And strong. And good with a sword. Not too smart though. Also: deaf.
Lika: That weird alien lady from Saturn.
Lily: Naive girl, but that's probably because she's young. Even's daughter?
Link: Talk about an easy target. But even after he lost to Akagi ('s cheating), he was accepting and polite and didn't make excuses, which Akagi respects. There's potential for friendship, but Akagi's nature strains things at (a lot of) times.
Major Kusanagi: She's... interesting. Not a typical woman, with views and opinions that differ from the norm. She's a robot and she's fun to talk to. Calls her 'Auntie'.
Remy: The first person to greet Akagi, and in Japanese none-the-less. When they finally spoke in text they seemed to have a few differences, but Akagi is pretty used to that. Remy kind of freaked out and teleported away when the met in person the first time though, Akagi's not too sure what's up with that (but of course thoroughly amused by it.)
Russ: A con man through and through. Not an Akagi-level challenge, but not bad in any sense of the word.
Torn: At first Akagi thought the tattoos meant Torn was some sort of gangster. He can fight, and Akagi knows better than to mess with him, at least directly. His respect for him went down a little when he found out he defaulted from the army.
Tina: He got the TVs to work. Akagi loves the fishing channel. A prime target for riling up.
Q&A
Q: DEAR GOD WHAT IS WRONG WITH HIS FACE.
A: Art style, dude. That's also why he has grey hair at 13.
Q: So, should I be worried about him poking my character's eye out with his nose?
A: No, because while he is drawn like a horrible monstrosity, irl he looks like any other squinty eyed Japanese kid. ...With grey hair. If you are having trouble imagining it, here's
live action Akagi. Q: Still. No way that thing is 13.
A: If it helps, canon says he looks older than he is, around 15-16. He also has a
manly man voice. Q: What the shit is up with his luck?
A: His godly luck is what his entire character is built around. Basically, his series says that because he has SURPASSED LOGIC, he is capable of things that normal humans aren't, blah blah blah is blessed with the flow of the game. He doesn't rely solely on his luck though, he has talent to back it up. Really his CRAZY LUCK only comes into play when his skill isn't enough.
Q: Still, I don't think he could beat (character) at (gamble/luck and skill based game here).
A: Fuck you. It's motherfucking Akagi.
...and by that I mean, unless that character is god-touched, Akagi would quickly learn to keep up with, if not surpass them. If you really think you have a case against a kid who wont lose anything in the 53 years of his life, then talk to me about it.
Q: WHAT ARE MAHJONGS?
A: It's a Chinese game of skill and chance, where you have 14 tiles and need to make a winning hand before anyone else does. Akagi specifically plays riichi (Japanese rules) mahjong. If you want to try it out, there's a great online version
here. The rules are explained at the bottom.
Q: Why doesn't Akagi know about colour television/pocky/how bad cigarettes are/etc?
A: He's a lower class Japanese 13 year old from 1958. That should answer everything.
Q: Why does your Akagi smoke? He doesn't smoke in canon until he's older.
A: It's the boat's fault. The availability of the cigarettes, along with the irritable/depressed event and the fact he was just getting used to the fact that his money and life were worthless to bet now pushed him to it.
Q: Which is his first name and which is his last?
A: Shigeru is his first name, Akagi is his last name.
Q: My character should know/I'm interested in what his name means/how it's written.
A: Akagi: 赤木 Shigeru: しげる
Akagi means literally 'red tree'. Shigeru means 'rich, thick, luxurious', and is a common boys name, like 'Jack'. His first name is written in hiragana, which is normally a more femine thing.
Q: What's all this "ざわ・・・ ざわ・・・" nonsense?
A: "Zawa zawa". It's a sound effect used a lot in Akagi's author's works. It's the sound of tense, uneasy situation.
Q: Why such a dick, dude?
A: 13 year olds are dicks at the best of times. This is a 13 year old who 'knows' he's better than everyone else and can actually back it up. It helps draw out the people worth challenging and gives him something to do, too.
