J2BB update and further departures - Yep, I'm still going.

A quick update on some things, since I've been a bit remiss in posting lately outside of twitter! I don't mean to neglect you. Some exciting things have been happening - the lovely bauble visited me in Toronto last weekend and lots of fun and adventures were had, and then next month I'll be joined by my brain-twin, fossarian, so we can experiment with a)

I wasn't, like... not a fan of it, but I do agree that I wasn't neither original nor as energetic as the last one. But I'm also someone who thinks "Teeth" and "Speechless" are her two best songs, ever. I really like "Government Hooker", "Schiebe", "Bloody Mary", and "Americano" on this one, though, as well as the White Shadows remix of "Judas" (ran my ass off to that one this morning, otherwise I can't stand the song). And "You and I" has a very Billy Joel-esque sound to it... but that's sort of it, for me. Her first album was all HER, and I don't particularly feel like she's trying too hard to sing on this one. It's more gimmicky.

Gaga's whole schtick is a gimmick, though, so I suppose by that standard she's just being consistent. Even her fashion lacks originality, because these days the stuff she wears is just whole outfits put together by "edgy" designers, as opposed to anything she's hashed or hacked together herself. She's a lot less of an artist than she wants us to think, but she really is a talented singer/songwriter.

Anyway, there's my Gaga rant. I danced my face off at her gig last year, so goes to show what I know. :P

See, this is what bothers me about her now. For fear of sounding like a pretentious ass wipe, I really do think she was better before she was super famous because it has sort of become all about the spectacle and less about the music. Know what I mean?
