Today, bopping to 'White Wedding' on the way home from work, I walked into a swarm of very tiny insects. (Exclusive Audio Clip: "Start agaaaaACKACKACKBUGSAUGHAKDHSHHAGGG!")
There are many things in this world that may throw off one's groove. I could have lived without experiencing this one.
*disconsolately picks bugs from hair*
On the positive side, I finished Assassin's Creed! And Altair has grown on me, somehow. He did develop as a character, just as I was hoping, and it's hard to really hate him after all he goes through. (I wonder how much of this is genuine development, and how much is from the art book and strategy guide - there's so much to miss in this game!) Besides, I've fangirled worse. Zachary Quinto does actually act and speak as though he wasn't attacked by ravening contractions as a child, though.
So many twists, I called. How very slightly irritating. Somehow, I will invent a device that allows me to see these things through fresh eyes every time, no matter how many hobo brains I must expend.
Yes, even the Dead Man's Chest ending. That does not mean I'm not annoyed about it, however. As time goes on I seem to have more cool stuff to buy and less time to enjoy it, so by the time the sequel comes out, I'll probably be banging away at my laptop surrounded by teetering piles of unplayed games, unwatched movies and unread books, and it'll languish in some dark corner gathering dust next to Bioshock 3 and System Shock 8.
...Er, anyway.
Tired and sleepy Thoughts that I'll probably add to later!
-I hope Maria comes back! This series (and I know it'll be a series) needs women! Besides, there's potential there: the target that wasn't, the one he let go...particularly since he killed her master. I hope they don't forget about her.
-Some time, I should sit down and work out the logistics of the Animus. There's some vague ideas about it recreating the environment based partly on the memories and partly on historical records, and populating it with 'drone' people (because who the hell remembers every single face in a crowd? This also explains the reused textures FANWANK HOORAY)...it seems to 'unravel' memories as it goes, following a thread...the thing I like about this system is that it excuses just about every single gamey idiosyncrasy as well as any inconsistencies.
-If I was inclined to slash...well, actually, even without that, um, that one informer was either in love with Altair or plotting his death (it's probably the latter, since he has the Vizier's voice, but Al will go his rest with an ego the size of Tasmania). I felt kind of terrible the fifth time I failed the poor man's task and reinitialized it. I was letting him down.
-Oh, that final sequence. Altair limned in glimmers of light, making his white robes even whiter, brilliant in the gloom. His opponent dressed in black, almost a silhouette, made nearly faceless by the power in his hands. Sometimes video games are so stupendous in their lack of subtlety, I want to ruffle their hair.
-I want to know what Lucy's Deal is. She must have a Deal.
-According to the strategy guide, the last guy they put in the Animus couldn't adjust, so it broke his mind - but it opened it to visions of...something bad. Since we don't know precisely where the hell those 'pieces of Eden' came from yet, I'll wager it has something to with that. After all, they grant such a lot of power for free. There has to be a catch somewhere.
-Speaking of which, those things apparently are good for nothing but illusions - they act on minds, not matter. I like that. I also like like they linked it to the Creed of the title, even if old Al-Mualim failed slightly as a shocking villain. (Sorry, Al, but I've seen it done better, very recently. I give you props for what you turned Masyaf to, though.)
-So Desmond has learned to use Eagle Sight. I hope it turns into him wrestling with the loss of his identity to that of his ancestor, but I have a feeling it'll just be an excuse to give him Altair-powers. Please please let it be both?
-The Assassins have persisted, it seems. I wonder in what form. Judging by Desmond's complaints about his 'hippy parents', probably not as ass-kicking dudes in white robes with a fragillion bladed weapons.
-Ahem. "Majd Addin is rumoured to have reached his position through nefarious means. Those rumours are likely true, as those who preceded him in the position all met with mysterious and untimely ends." Now there's a line that sounds way better if you pretend Garrett said it.
