"An experienced and accredited software engineer could be hired for as little as $5,000 per year, compared with $25,000 for engineers on par in India, and $125,000 for engineers in Silicon Valley."

I just read this in an article that I was hoping to cite for my IT paper on Software Outsourcing. The $5000 annual salary is for an engineer in China.

This IT degree I'm doing - I'm excited that I could possibly get a $125k/year salary (blows my mind!!), but at the same time, largely due to this article, I'm incredibly discouraged because my future potential jobs could be outsourced for next to nothing. That wonderful Chinese software engineer makes less than 1/4 of what I make now (and I'm making jack $#!&). I'm spending all this money on a degree to make me hopefully at least as much as that engineer in India, if not the fancy Silicon Valley salary, but will probably end up being the $40k/year salaried girl who is the liaison between our $5k/year engineers and the US exec team. =/
