Today started with an email from Joey's dad, Joe, in Turkey. I wrote to wish him a happy Father's Day, and he wrote back right away with a sweet little message. Lovely way to start the day.
I decided to wear my Nationals "party hat" to church this morning. It's one of those half-bandanas with strings and it has American flags on it. Found it at Kohl's for $3. And I wanted to wear it to church. And Tonia was wearing my navy blue shirt (which would have gone so well with my "party hat"), so right before Joey got to the house, I convinced Tonia to switch shirts with me. (I was wearing a tank top of sorts, and she has much buffer arms, so it worked.)
On the way to church, Joey said he had a song he wanted to play for us ever since gut-spilling time on Tuesday. Said he wished he'd written it himself, but he hadn't. And that it described his feelings about what we'd shared with him. The song was Carry You To Jesus by Steven Curtis Chapman. Man. So yeah. I cried. So meaningful. Joey is da man. Then we jammed to the Declaration CD the rest of the way there.
The worship team really played up Father's Day. They even did The Father's Song. Which basically made me bawl, considering the dad issues I've been going through. And Adrienne loved up on me. Yay A!
Talked with Alex after church. His fam was fixing (yes, w-a-y too much time with Michael, hehe) to go to the hospital to hang with his grandpa who had broken his hip. But yes. Alex is a sweet boy. And allergy-filled like me.
On the way back from church, there was more jamming. Seriously, some of the best times I've had with Joey are singing in the car with him. So fun. And! Got word of some sort of get-together on Tuesday. I'm thinking it's birthday-related. Eeee!
Just got done with dinner--pork chops and veggies--and Dairy Queen cake on the deck with Mom, Dad and Tann. Surprisingly pleasant.
QUOTE:
"You have to understand that, to us, in our spirituality, the hardest thing in the word is to just do something for the goodness of it. Just do it because that's something between you and God. Like, 'I'm doing this for you God. Not for this person, not everyone who's watching, but for you.'" -Chris Kirkpatrick
