The baking frenzy has begun....sorta

Dec 21, 2009 17:56

First...I need to find a good icon for when I am posting baking stuff...because I has none and I are sad....

Otherwise the baking has begun....and apparently I dance like a fool while listening to P!nk and bake...but damn I am having fun doing it so guilt free cookies for ALL! I have already worked the calories off for you, m'kay?

Now the plan is to bake umm...Chocolate Crinkles, Gingerbread Wishing Stars (And other holiday shapes), Snickerdoodles, Egg Nog Thumbprints (For fear of maiming by some of the more bloody minded family members...threats have been made...I live in fear...ok maybe not), Diabetic friendly Snickerdoodles (Ahh the wonders of Splenda), my great great grandmother's recipe for Chezkoslovakian (sp?) Strawberry Nut bars...along with a couple special recipes for friends who have dietary issues....

So far...Snickerdoodles are done, as are the Chocolate Crinkles. Yay. Gingerbread needs icing as soon as I figure out where the hell my icing bag and tips are...or I go to Chef's Emporium...depends on who has control of the kitchen tomorrow.

Will I have the power....or will I be banished to running errands...who can say.

Same with the Egg Nog thumbprints...no icing bag and tips...so i will worry about finishing those off tomorrow as well...I'm hoping the cold streak holds out because I can toss a table in the garage and put the cookie trays out there for the icings to set in the cold...covered of course...

One good thing about the thumbprints...12 minute bake cycle YAY! So I am hopping on here between trays to work on posting this.

I was hoping this year to escape the baking frenzy without having any batches fail...but no such luck. I was trying to make a regular batch of Snickerdoodles diabetic friendly (I normally double all my recipes) and substitute the sugar with Splenda...and I'm not sure went wrong from there....batter doesn't look right, too crumbly...tried baking it and it didn't puff up and settle down like it's supposed to, just stayed in the balls I rolled them in....grrrr....rather than waste time baking the rest, I pitched the remaining batter....

Only good thing is for some odd reason my mother likes them, so I saved the ones I baked and set them aside for her.

So...6 hours later I am done for now, have the last of the egg nog cookies in the fridge and will bake them after dinner.

At least I will have the most labor intensive cookies finished by tomorrow, and if things work out I'll have them ALL done....

Still, right now if you walk into my house OM NOM NOM NOM!!!!!!

Maybe if I get the energy I'll make the greek snowballs my dad loves so much....Maybe.

Still have to box them all up to ship them out though...no one is going to have them for Christmas, but I'm hoping everyone will have them just after...We'll see if I can get everything shipped Wednesday...
