11/03 - Niigata (starts about 10 seconds into the Niigata chapter in the DVD)

PLEASE REMEMBER MY TRANSLATION RULES.

Maybe for the sake of propriety, they cut out a chunk prior to where this takes off, but the back story starts with Subaru talking about how five years ago, they all drank a bunch of nihonshuu and as a result, he and Hina kissed each other a lot.  Also, pictures were taken of them and showed up during some MC (somehow I just have no recollection of this).  Ohkura remembers this because he and Hina were watching soccer and drinking together.  Anyway, the cut begins with Yasu in the middle of telling a story about Subaru (drunkenly) going after Hina saying, "Hina, Hina" and making kiss noises.  Maru says that those two definitely kissed in the car and Hina says that he wasn't really that drunk at the time.

Ohkura says he remembers them kissing in Nagano (probably during 47) and Subaru says that the kiss was really gorigori (meaning kind of like no-holds barred, or forceful).

[more edited out but for those interested…] Maru recalls that the other members were the ones who kept saying, "Do it, do it, do it!" so because they were drunk and excited, they really went for it.  Apparently Ohkura took a movie of them doing it and Maru tells him that he should sell it.  Hina says that when Subaru gets drunk, he's usually the sleepy drunk, but every now and then he'll be the really excited, fun drunk.

MC picks up from this point (actual translated MC footage + summarized fan accounts):
Subaru says that maybe once a year he'll be a fun drunk and Hina says when it did happen that year, he just happened to be Subaru's victim.  Subaru says that he'll do it to whomever is sitting next to him and that to him, it doesn't really matter who.  Because Subaru says that anyone is okay, Hina tells him that it sort of hurts to hear that.

A bit of translation because they're making fun of Yoko (but he asked for it)
Ryo: Yokoyama-kun does it to Murakami-kun, too.
Subaru+Hina: He does!
Ryo: Chuu chuu

Yoko: I've never initiated it, though.
∞: Yeah, you have!!
Yasu: You do it a lot!
Maru: Yuu-chin…

Ohkura: Moreover, you always do it to Murakami-kun.  Speaking of which, Murakami-kun is really popular, huh!?

Hina: I'm popular, huh!
Yamada: For real.
Hina: I'm crazy popular out of the ossans (see notes).

[cut]
Maru: Yuu-chin says, "Ah, can't be helped" and kisses because he's tempted.
Yoko: What the heck…
Hina: Yeah, we've seen it a lot.

Ohkura: Yokoyama-kun's kisses also make a "chu" noise.
Yasu: Ah, his kisses make noise.
Subaru: They totally do!
Yoko: No, but it's because you guys tell me to do it.  I wouldn't do it otherwise.

Ohkura: Ah, there, he's trying to cover up his embarrassment.
Yasu: You have to do it properly.
Yoko: I can't say that I'm embarrassed so that's why I really go for it!
Ohkura: This group really does go for it.

[cut]
The one in which Subaru tells a weird story about Yasu.
Subaru: You know how Yasuda-kun is like an idiot?
Yoko + Hina: Yeah.
Yoko: Well, you could call him tennen.
Subaru: He has that kind of thing, right?
Hina: Something he lacks, right?

Subaru: I had an hour break and it just so happened to be only Yasu and me in the waiting room.  I came in after him and Yasu was on the phone speaking softly with a friend but I didn't pay any attention to him and sat on the sofa.  Since he was on the phone, I thought I'd keep quiet so I just played games on my phone.
Hina: Right, right.
Subaru: I didn't want to listen in, but what I heard was shocking.
Yoko + Hina: What happened?
Subaru: Um, I know that we pretty much have nothing to do during the break.
Hina: It's just idle time, right?
Subaru: But he was playing shiritori over the phone the whole time (see notes).
[everyone freaks out]
Subaru: Well, it's Yasu, so that kind of thing is not impossible.  I can't say anything-
Hina: Because we've known him for so long.
Subaru: Right.  I thought it was a lie, but what I heard from the beginning of that hour was all "rokuro" (轆轤, potter's wheel).  They were playing shiritori, but it was like a battle of "rokuro."
Hina: So if we were to do it here, it would be like, "Uh, rokuro."
Subaru: Mmm, rokuro.

Hina: For real?  Roku…ro.
Subaru: It was like that for the whole hour.  Partway through, I seriously got scared.
Hina: That would totally scare me.  That's dangerous.
Subaru: It wasn't shiritori but maybe it became a rokuro game.
Hina: That kind of thing happens in shiritori a lot.
Subaru: If he could explain the rules to me first-

[Subaru and Hina laugh like crazy]
Yoko: Incredible, huh?
Subaru: That's scary, isn't it?  No, there must have been other things until it reached "rokuro" and (I'm only saying this) because I came into the room partway through.
Hina: Right, right.  Ah, I get it.
Subaru: There are instances in shiritori where you pass "tomato" back and forth.
Hina: Yeah, it sometimes gets to that extent.
Yoko: If you play 3-syllable shiritori, that happens, right?
Subaru: Right?  But at the most, you'll repeat it ten times.
Hina: "Okay, that's enough" and move on, right?
Subaru: But it was "rokuro."  Them passing it back and forth!
Yoko: [he messes up but nobody pays attention to it] Rokud- just "rokuro," right?
Subaru: Yeah.
Hina: Never-ending "rokuro."
Subaru: It's surprising.
Hina: He probably didn't even notice it.  In Shizuoka, last week, the three of us and Yasuda-kun went to the bathhouse.  I was next to him and it appeared.  Youkai butt-washing.
Subaru: Again!?
Hina: Morever, he didn't notice it!  I was sitting and washing my hair when water kept splashing at me from the side.

I thought, "Ugh, so annoying" and when I turned to the side, BOOM, [mimicking Yasu washing his butt] and from there straight to his face.

When I said, "Oi, Yasu!" he exclaimed, "Eh? There it is!" on his own.

End notes:
⋅ "baka mote" (バカモテ)
The word "baka" can be used as a replacement for "chou" (超); in other words, it means "totally."  I'm only saying this because I don't know how many of you picked up the fact that Hina referred to himself as "baka mote" and it's not literally "idiot popular," but when you substitute "chou" (like saying "超嬉しい![chou ureshii]" for "I'm SO happy!") with "baka," it's almost as if to say that the extent is so much that it's stupid.  I know a PE teacher who used to say, "バカ暑い!(baka atsui)" every morning in summer and when winter rolled around, he'd change it to "バカ寒い!(baka samui)"  I don't know if Kanto and further north use it, but it's definitely a staple in Shizuoka regardless of age group.

⋅ shiritori (しりとり)
The Japanese language is syllabic, so the shiritori game is easy to play because you just pass words back and forth keeping one rule in mind: you have to use the last syllable of the word that your partner gives you.  The only way to lose the game is if you end with a word that uses the one-letter syllable, ん (n).  For example: a-ho (idiot) → ho-ta-te (scallop → te-bu-ku-ro (glove) → ro--n (loan).  There are no hard rules beyond that, so like Yoko said, you could choose to play 3-syllable shiritori, you could have penalty words, and like Yasu, you can repeat the same word OVER AND OVER FOR AN HOUR.

I'm probably the only weirdo who thinks this, but it was appropriate that Yasu and his friend were passing rokuro back and forth since it means "potter's wheel."  I know it's all kinds of strange that they kept at it for an hour, but the act of them passing the same word back and forth as a symbol of what it actually means makes the literature geek in me laugh and both appreciate the total weirdness that is Yasuda Shota.

Niigata seriously has some hilarious topics for MC.  As much as I like listening to them, some of the MCs at other venues were really just standard fare kind of small talk whereas other places like Niigata and Fukuoka were unforgettable.  Niigata part two is about Ryo's birthday and more members vs. Yoko.  Also, now that we know that Subaru will kiss anyone sitting next to him on the rare occasion when he's happy drunk, I hope Yoko uses that information to always make sure that Ryo is sitting next to Subaru, just in case.  Then he needs to take a picture of it and use it at MC.  Or Ryo should just take the initiative and have a permanent place at Subaru's side.
