Weekend - well, Saturday Report

It is now the morning time, & I am posting from the breakroom at work.

Freak went to the Warhammer store at the mall - apparently they're doing some kind of drawing today & he wants to see if any of the raffle tickets he's accumulated over the last couple of weeks win him anything... so he dropped me off & has the car. As such i'm here a little early.

Yesterday... Got up, threw things in the dryer, loaded up some of the monitors that have been clogging the living room to give to Dragon & grabbed the little girl clothes i'd sewn for Piper's presents. Made good time on I-5 & made it to Ballard only a little bit late... & Tabby was there! She was looking good, hadn't seen her in... 4, 5 years? Something like that. Still living in the same place, with the same guy, and I got all her contact info so Freak could call her up. I'm thinking that since she keeps similar hours to us - that overnight thing - we can go visit some night when Freak is antsy & a bit manic & needs to get out of the house.

Got to the party & talked to Tabby while watching all the little children playing, until present time arrived. Piper pulled the clothes out of the bag I'd put them in, & didn't seem too impressed, although after the community center closed & we all went back to the house Gogo put the clothes on Piper to check the fit & she didn't want to take them back off again! The pants I was worried about the rise on actually fit exactly right, and Gogo gave up on getting the little dress off her. So the little girl clothes were a big hit.

Also got dragged to the U-Dist & introduced to something called "white coffee" - they barely roast the coffee beans, so when you brew your coffee its much MUCH less harsh, very VERY high in caffeine, and no stomach upset. I, being the silly girl I am, asked for one with orange in it - sadly, the thing about orange & orange syrups is that if the acid content is too high, the milk curdles. Which mine did - not that badly, admittedly, but the little bits floated to the top & it was like trying to drink cottage cheese. Just a little disconcerting.

Pixey was there when we got back from the coffee run. I'd already offered to give Tabby a ride since I'd be driving right past her house anyway on my way home, and after visiting a little bit longer it was time to go. Pixey ended up getting a ride back with me - when offered gas money, even I will drive to Bellevue. Borrowed a child seat from someone who was there, loaded up Pixey & the 2.5 yr old & Tabby & a child bed that Gogo gave to Pixey for her daughter & off we went. Got everyone dropped off & I went back home where I vegged out on the couch for a little bit.

After that was when I went grocery shopping... spent pretty much the entire wad in one shot. I'm still pleased though - Top Foods has a pretty decent "health food" section so I was able to find the organic versions of everything pretty easily - got a big bottle of Santa Barbara Olive Co. olive oil, and a Spectrum Naturals bottle of Canola oil. Both companies I remember from my dad's store. I was thinking about it though - if I keep this up, switching everything over to the stuff I grew up with, i'll qualify as a "health food nut" pretty quickly. I also need to mark some of the stuff I picked up yesterday with the date, so I have an idea how fast I go through stuff. To figure out what a "month's supply" is.

Last night... Cooked a lot of stuff before bed. Made a batch of brownies... & switched 1/2 the flour for whole wheat flour. Loaded that experimental bread into the machine. Did the dishes... And put that pork roast (well, 1/2 the roast) into the crock pot with salt & liquid smoke so it could quietly cook for 10 hours. Loaded a batch of rice into the rice cooker to go with the kalua pig. So when I got up I had a bunch of stuff to do on top of getting coffee & breakfast. Pulled the bread out of the machine, sliced a bit off to taste. (Freak liked it. I liked it, it hadn't collapsed, it was a little sweet, not too heavy. Definitely doing that again.) Pulled the pork out of the crock, peeled back the fat & started pulling it apart - perfect. Put some rice & a couple hunks of pig in a bowl for Freak, & did a quick braise of cabbage in the juice from the crock. Packed the cabbage, some rice, & a few hunks of pig for my lunch. Put the bread away. Made coffee, my yogurt thing, & discovered i'd pretty much run myself out of time.

But i'm here at work now... feeling a little headachey & blah, but i'm here.

in today's news, pork, bread, iron nani
