Totally Random but Awesome Experience

Sidenote--Took this kickass picture of Hep Five today. Love it. <3

Today Oklahoma Girl and I were supposed to go to a cookout at the consular general's house, and we went to Hep Five in Umeda to wait for another group of interns that we were supposed to be going with. (They were over 45 minutes late and so we ended up leaving, but that's another story for another post.) Speaking of Hep Five, I took this awesome picture of it today. <3

Anyway, the Hep Five area is where teenagers like to hangout and do, well, nothing. Hep Five is a shopping mall but lots of people just sit outside of the building and chill, either talking or trying to hit on the opposite sex.

So, Oklahoma Girl and I were sitting outside the building waiting. I was "reading" a Japanese magazine. There is the group of maybe five guys chatting and goofing off nearby us. One of the guys was sitting on a railing, and suddenly he fell backwards OFF the railing and into some prickly bushes. He was shouting "Ouch! Ouch!" and one of his buddies (let's call this guy Black Shirt) jumps in the bush to save him.

I was laughing my ass off because, well, it was really funny. LOL! Then Black Shirt notices that I'm laughing at them and he points this out to his other friends. So now they're all looking at me and they wave, so I wave back.

A few minutes later, Black shirt randomly comes over to me and sits down next to me. I'm still looking at this magazine, and black shirt points to a picture of a Linkin Park album and says "Linkin Park," and that's it.

I was thinking "Okaaaay . . ." So I asked him in Japanese if he liked Linkin Park. He said no. Then he pointed to a picture of a Japanese boyband called Kanjani 8 and asked me if I knew them. I said yes, but that I didn't like them. Then I flipped the magazine over to the cover and he points to the woman on the cover and asks me if I know the woman. I said "Koda Kumi. I love her," and Black Shirt was like "WOOOOOOOOAAAA?!" Like, really shocked that I knew a Japanese singer.

So then he drags over another one of his friends, who we will call Cowboy Hat. Black Shirt tells Cowboy Hat that I know about Koda Kumi, and Cowboy Hat went "WOOOOOOOOAAAA?!" too. LOL.

Then Cowboy Hat started telling us how he's been to San Francisco and San Jose before. (He's speaking in English BTW, and his english is good enough to get his point across.) He asks us were in the US we're from. I lied and said California, and he was like "YES!!" and gave me a high five. Some time during this conversation, Black Shirt starts patting my hair, which is a semi-afro puff thing, in awe I guess.

Well, eventually they went back to doing what they had been doing before they came to talk to us, which was basically walk up to random cute girls and try to ask them out. They were turned down every time, and some girls looked really disgusted at them too. LMAO.

Eventually I conned them into taking a picture with me, which they did happily.

Anyway, they were nice guys and tried to speak to us even though we weren't that good at Japanese and they weren't that good at english. I wonder if they ever managed to get any phone numbers. Probably not, hahahaha!
