I am so concerned about Abe. He is quite addicted to mind altering substances. He crushes up leaves, vitamin b12 or anything else, and snorts it. I am not sure what he's doing it for. Sometimes to stay up late or all night. He uses cocaine and pot. I'm not sure what else. Isn't that enough? He gets into my pills.

My health isn't that great so trying to do something about this is a real stretch. I want to take him to a drug rehab program. But a man convinced against his will is of his own opinion still. It'll just make me worse if I try to control him. He has to want it. He doesn't want it yet. How bad will he have to get before he wants it? Will he OD and be gone? I want so much, as a mother to try to control him. That doesn't work.

I don't think he remembers life without drugs now. He doesn't think he's an addict because he is an occasional user of cocaine and pot. He doesn't use them every day. But he does do something. He has schitzophrenia now. He has to sleep with the lights on. He likes having lots of lights on.

I understand that. It's so dull outside with the thick cloudy sky. We have snow again this morning. It doesn't end. Winter just goes on and on and on.

We went to the temple for the weekend. It was his birthday on Friday. I left him a note, but he was on his own here. When we got back on Saturday evening, his room smelled like pot. It still does. Willem found an ash tray on his bed. He has no concept of safety.

When we got home from District conference on Sunday evening, after going to visit with Zane and family, Abe had thrown up in the bathroom. His eyes looked incredibly dull. I've never seen them look like that. He wanted to go to Tim Hortons for a steak and cheese sandwich for his birthday. I said we'd take him out to dinner today. He wanted to go last night.

I showed him where the food is in the cupboards. He made himself a tuna sandwich. I made some stuffing mix, some popcorn and some turnovers for him. Those were the quickest things I thought he'd eat.

I showed him where the pancake mix is, the macaroni, the vegetables, the soup, the rice. How can a 23 year old starve in a house as filled with food as this one?
