Walked down Three Birches with Willem

I needed to get outside and get something done. So Willem came with me, and with my gopro hero camera going, I filmed our little experience.

We walked through the valley between our house and the plateau and turned into Deer Meadow, or as Willem calls it, 'Your Office'. Neither of those names do it justice. It is the top of a ridge. The terrain here is like M's and W's. We live on the top of the first bump of the M. Deer meadow is on the top of the second bump of the M. The meadow is about ten feet wide. Tall birch trees line the top of the west side. The entire west side of the hill is covered by cedar trees and named Cedar Hillside. The valley between the two hills is called Dead Man's Run.

So Deer Meadow is uneven near the plateau, but evens out and becomes quite smooth. It is edged by a sprawling, but well chopped back juniper bush. Ahead at the end are tall birches and then down the north side of the slope to Fiddlehead Pond. To the east is the first valley of the W. On the slope is a rope swing, so the area is called Rope Swing Hillside. Past that low area, the maple forested land rises further and is owned by the neighbours.

So, now that you know the layout of the land, I'll continue. We descended Three Birches Hillside, holding onto the ropes all the way down. I must have moved my legs at the wrong angle cos I was in a lot of pain afterwards.

The hillside is covered with thick maple and birch leaves. A few large white birch logs lay across the hillside. It was hard to hold the rope descend facing downhill. It was, however fine to spin around as I held onto large trees.
