Spinning wool fiber at last!

I set up the spinning wheel that I borrowed from Mera, brought in some of the fleece and pulled it into a long narrow roving. Some of it anyway, a basketball sized pile of roving from a few inches of fleece.

I am using the low green rocking chair to sit in. I finally figure out that to keep the spinning wheel from sliding away from me, i can hook my foot over the base! It works marvellously!

It is so easy to spin this roving. Lots of dirt falls out when I pull the roving. I don't like carding the wool. It's so much trouble to do that!

Seems so long ago now when the man at the fair gave me three fleeces for free! There were so many people at Rhinebeck who don't have a source of free fiber! I am so blessed! I didn't get to see the sheep to shawl demonstrations at Rhinebeck. But seeing it at the local fair where the local spinners from Mera were working inspired me to spin this wool and then to weave with it! I loved seeing the sheep to shawl.

I'm surprised at how nice and thin this thread is that i'm spinning! I'm doing a good job on it! There are some lumps, but they are small and the sort that are added to the wool to give it texture!

I wish Mary had a spinning wheel. It would be so nice for her to use in the evenings!
