Snow tires errand

5:21pm Dec. 27, 2012
Thursday

We came into town to get the snow tires put on the car. I went to the bank, the dollar store and the grocery store while Willem went to Canadian Tire to get snow tires put on his car. It took two hours from the appointment time to get them on.

I didn’t want to buy a lot of stuff at the store, as I’m trying not to use much money anymore. I did manage to buy half good stuff and half junk food. I certainly was more interested in the junk food, though!

Willem picked me up when they still hadn’t taken his car in, an hour after his appointment. I was glad of that. We sat in the waiting room playing with the television, eating peanut butter chocolate chip cookies and sharing with the others that were car waiting, too.

The back ones are almost bald but the front ones are good, the mechanic said. It’s snowing pretty hard and there is a few inches of packed, loose snow on the parking lot. It’s a depressing feeling. I am remembering all the times I was quite depressed in Canadian winters. I didn’t let myself be depressed, but the feeling was there on the verge. I just wanted to be home in our cozy chalet in the forested hills, my own winter wonderland, not this.

I guess it’s the fear of getting stuck, of being plowed into by an out of control car, of careening into another car or any stationary object. Fear. Perhaps it has to do with the head-on collision. Perhaps not.

I called Alida to find out what time they were performing, but she said the others had cancelled. The weather wasn’t awful, but the roads were pretty bad, though the snow wasn’t deep and it wasn’t snowing hard either!
