9:36 am
I dropped off Willem at work. I’ll pick him up in eight hours, at 5:36!
I drove right over to the billings bridge mall park on the Rideau River, parked the car and took the Nordic walking poles out of the trunk.
I walked along the Rideau river pathway to Bank Street, then walked across the bridge. I noticed a mallard duck diving, his tail up out of the water. His tail together with the ends of his wings, looked like a wide open fish mouth!
When I first saw him, I was surprised and did a double take! Sure enough, he bobbed back upright for a couple of seconds before diving again. I was intrigued so made a video of it. Interesting.
I liked seeing the river from the bridge, walking on it, I mean. It was so nice to be able to use my walking poles, have my camera on my wrist and just amble along.
I saw a pathway on the riverside and wanted to go exploring on the other side of the river when I finished with the bridge. It was called Linda Thom Park.
I guess she was an Olympic gold metal winner in 1984 for Canada. I liked that little park. It had a big Coin statue to remember her win for us.
The paths to the river weren’t paved, though there was a set of cement stairs on one pathway down. I saw a plastic chair at the base of the bank along the river beside some small rapids. That one drew me down.
I sat in the chair, adjusting where it was placed so all four feet were level. The rapids were just a narrow line of rocks. I wondered if I could walk across them to the island on the other side.
It was so nice down there, enjoying the water and watching nothing less than a pair of common darners! They had green heads, the male had a blue body and the female had a green one, and they both had green tails. They flew in tandem, then lighted on the water where zI could finally get a good look at them. However, they were still quite difficult to see clearly, as they were pretty far for my 70X optical zoom.
I made a vlog and then started to video them. Then I stopped and made another one just of the pair on the water. What a peaceful place it was!
