Birchbark canoes for the Mera Christmas tree
Rosie found lots of balsam and pine and spruce boughs and trees along the roadside. She brought them along, lots of them, to tie to the arbour poles in front of Mera and to decorate for the Advent Sale on the weekend.
I brought lots of small birchbark pieces to make the little canoe decorations for the tree
Wendy brought a huge amount of perfect birchbark! She'd sent her husband into the woods to bring in a lot of bark. He'd taken it off in large pieces up to about a meter long! Amazing!
She was just giving it to me! Unbelievable!
We sat around and made little canoes. She had a good pattern with a rounded front she made. I oiled the bark before I used it.
I sewed four or five of them with dental floss on the ends. They look lovely! Some of them were pretty small, though.
