Observations from beside the stream at sedge meadow tepee

I’ve gone out of the blue covered tepee and sat by the stream. I didn’t realize there was a bit of a dam downstream just a bit. It looks natural and not made by the beavers, though.

I sat and videoed for awhile, then walked to Everywhichway bridge. What a nice bridge! I stood on it and filmed for awhile, then crossed and filmed the boardwalk I made along the stream last autumn.

I cut into the marsh woods and found a little pocket of alders with a space in the center. It’s got a balsam in it, too. The new growth tips of the balsams are all brown, like little pine cones. Interesting. There’s newer growth that is lovely and fresh green. They smell so good. I just love balsam firs!

I walked around the area a little, then came out to the stream to be sure of the way I had found it. I also cut through towards the property line, but couldn’t see the alder ring anymore!

I saw a pileated woodpecker feeding her young and filmed it for awhile. Then he flew away.

I’m back in the tipi again. I like how the cover mutes the bright sunshine. I also like how a bit of the breeze comes through.

This was the way it was down here when I first built this tipi and covered it for the winter on one side. I lay in the hammock and watched the blizzard. It was very neat. It’s hard to believe it’s the same poles and spot as that was several years ago.

Some of these poles need to be propped back up with a board across behind them.

I love lying here listening to the veery. Now that I know what it is, it’s so neat to listen to it.

There’s nothing like this at Mom’s house. I wouldn’t trade this for that, although I do love it down in Athens, I love the wild of the north, the freshness of the air and the amazing birds, marshes and dragonflies.

I was looking for fungus in the Marsh Woods, rather haphazardly at best. I’ll have to go in and look at another area of it later on. Perhaps I should bring two boards to put across that one little stream emptying the fen. That would be a good goal every time I come down here, to take just a couple of boards into the marsh woods to extend the boardwalk.

It’s also good to be getting rid of the boards that are outside on the ground beside the tipi. I need that all tidied up, so moving them is an excellent idea. I am mighty tired, though. I could say that because I did so much today I don’t have to do any more.

I did drive the car down here, so I don’t have to take so much back up with me.

I brought my scriptures, so I’d better read a bit of them before I don’t do it. Perhaps Willem will come down and stop to see me as he drives by and sees the car. Perhaps. I’d better get the other hammock ready for him to lie in, then!
