Your body probably isn't that much different from how it was, it is just that you know now what is wrong with it, and what you can do to relieve the symptoms. With reasonable care you will live a full life for many years yet.
You know, now that I've seen the x-rays and know that I have osteo arthritis in my good shoulder, I am so aware of everytime I use that arm or carry anything and have some pain.
My scientist sister said that studies have shown that if you think about the pain it actually increases in intensity! strange phenomena, not just perception of pain. No wonder we're supposed to think about good things!
It makes me wonder how many other parts of my body have osteoarthritis! Perhaps it's better not to know. I could just become a cripple in a wheelchair if I thought my whole body was in rough shape!
I think pain does increase in intensity when you concentrate on it. When I was in excruciating pain with my back a few years ago I spent a lot of time playing computer games, as it gave me something else to concentrate on (I still do); it was also because the computer chair gave the best lumbar support and that eased the pain too.
I've got osteoarthritis in a number of joints due to wear and tear. It does limit my movements somewhat but I get on with what I can do. Obviously it is worse in the winter, so living in the depths of a Canadian winter is not ideal for you. You can concentrate on the pain, or you can live with it.
I reckon this . . . Anxiety and tiredness make everything feel worse because your whole body is tense. The ailments you probably already had have flared up worse because of the tension. You've also had a bit of a shock with the heart thing and that is adding to the mix. I'm sure that once you begin to relax and realise you aren't going to pop off anytime soon, all that anxiety and tension will leave your body and you'll begin to feel much better. It seems to me that you are in a bit of a vicious circle at the moment (sleep deprived, anxious, tense -> everything hurts-> sleep deprived, anxious, tense etc etc). I only have to be deprived of my whole 7 hours sleep for a couple of nights and I feel wretched and everything hurts. Feel better soon Nancy ~hugs~.
I've had a lot of joint problems, some osteo arthritis and incredibly high cholesterol, & a dodgy disc in the lower back, arrhythmia, attacks, etc)...after some months now cleaning up my diet (only using olive oil to cook) and taking omega 3 fish oil every day, things have improved dramatically. Worth a try, can't hurt. My cholesterol, is back to nearly normal and I'm no longer on the arrhythmia medication.
I saw your post last night about the bone spurs and such. All that is REALLY painful. Just one word of caution...you need to ask about drug interactions because there are some pain relievers you can take with your heart medication and others you shouldn't because of adverse interactions. You can't take aspirin, tylenol AND ibuprofen all at once! I know you're feeling horribly stressed and worried about all your ailments and the heart condition. That's normal. But being sleep deprived will worsen all of the problems. You have to figure out how to work with all of the above instead of having it all work against you. Manolo has been dealing with a lot of that for several years now and right now he's very very stressed which is, of course, worsening his blood pressure and heart problems.
Thank you for pointing that out. I've stopped taking the tylenol. Is it okay to take one low dose aspirin a day and then iburprophen for pain management throughout the day?
Manolo takes baby aspirin every day also and he takes ibuprofen when he needs a pan reliever but he doesn't have chronic pain like you have and need them so much. Can you check with your doctor about that?

How cold do your winters there in Tasmania get? I suppose I could google it but...it's so much easier to ask!

Now that I have all this focus on my bursitis and arm stuff, my chest has settled right down.
I was even able to deal with my two children stranded in Chicago airport for 20 hours without any tension chest pain.
Something must be working!

when I was about to be hit head-on by a truck last year, I can remember thinking in shock, this isn't suppposed to happen to me!
I guess we sort of see our futures differently than they turn out.
I never thought I'd have anything in common with someone who had had heart problems, either.
