The High Dive

I was in the 3rd grade and every morning my family would go to the park to play in the city pool. Then we'd have a picnic at the park.

There was one time in which the kids were invited to the deeper end of the pool and everyone was getting on the diving boards. The highest one was maybe 20 feet high...this was back when I was under 5 feet tall so that high dive was REALLY high.

Everyone was saying how much fun it is to jump off the high dive and then splash into the pool. So I wanted to try it. It felt like it took forever to climb up there. When I was finally there, I looked down and it was a scary. I didn't think too much about it, I just jumped off.

BOOM! I belly flopped, and it HURT! The lifeguard later told me how I jumped in the wrong way, and what the correct way is so that I don't hurt myself again.

Later that summer, I did go up again and I had the lifeguard jump in with me (that was very nice of him). And everyone was right, it was a lot of fun.

I feel that this reflects the situation I'm in right now. I belly flopped, it hurts, but I've learned better. So I'm standing on the edge of that diving board (without a lifeguard) debating if I should jump right in... because climbing back down is always an option.
