Summary: Noah's in his room at the hospital.
Noah picked desultorily at the Spam and pineapple sandwich that Luke had brought him for lunch. Noah hadn’t even realized that Al’s Diner carried Spam and pineapple sandwiches. He briefly wondered if Luke had a lot more unresolved anger towards him than he was admitting. He did notice that Luke didn’t bring a lunch for himself.
Now that all of that anger that Noah had been living with was gone, he could remember how much he had enjoyed something as simple as eating lunch with Luke. Whether they were eating Emma’s hearty leftovers out at the farm, or Lily’s housekeeper’s cooking at Lily’s house , or Luke’s infamous burnt grilled cheese sandwiches at their apartment, Noah had always loved the cozy domesticity of having lunch with his boyfriend. Talking about school or dreaming about their future or laughing about the antics of Luke’s siblings. He had been able to talk to Luke about anything. Luke had always given Noah all of the encouragement and love and caring that Noah had never felt growing up. Now that he wasn’t feeling so hostile towards Luke, he realized how much he missed him.
Noah was glad that Luke was off trying to apologize to Dr. Oliver for doing whatever it was that Luke had done to upset him. He wasn’t surprised that Luke didn’t even realize what he had said or done that was so offensive. But he was relieved that Luke still cared enough about him to be willing to apologize to Dr. Oliver at Noah’s request. Noah suspected that the only reason he had forced the issue of Luke apologizing was to reassure himself that Luke still cared enough about him to be willing to do something that he hated. Noah hadn’t given up hope on his relationship with Luke.
Noah started making plans to win back Luke’s trust. Maybe he could surprise Luke with a short film. His film could show snapshots depicting how happy he and Luke had been together while Luke’s favorite songs provided the soundtrack. Noah would have to make sure that there weren’t any pictures of Ameera. Or maybe Noah could attempt to write a poem. He had never been good with words. Not like Luke was. But if Noah could write a poem that expressed how much he loved Luke and how Noah was really going to work at being a better boyfriend, Luke wouldn’t care that it didn’t rhyme or anything.
Noah was willing to do anything it took to win Luke back. Allison called out greetings as she entered his hospital room. Wow, her hair was really shiny.
