Summary: Luke helps a friend
PART ONE
Reid arrived home to find his boyfriend in earnest conversation with his former best friend/secret crush/one-time enemy, Kevin Davis. Reid rolled his eyes. He wasn’t jealous of the feelings that Luke had once felt for blockhead. He just didn’t like the guy. But Luke had forgiven Kevin all once Kevin had apologized to him and made a painful confession. Apparently, Kevin had gone the route of vocal condemnation as opposed to being a man and admitting his bi-sexuality and his attraction to Luke
Reid bent down to kiss a smiling Luke. He greeted Kevin coldly. “Hello, Closet Case.
Kevin flushed as Luke gently smacked Reid’s chest in reproof.
“Reid, you work late on Saturday, right?” asked Luke.
“Yeah, why?” asked Reid suspiciously.
“Well, Kevin feels ready to visit his first gay bar but is a little nervous about going alone. Since you’re not big on socializing with your fellow human beings, I thought I’d accompany him on a night where you’re busy working.”
“So you’re going to be Kevin’s Gayness Tutor? Have you ever even been in a gay bar?”
“I’m sure going to a gay bar isn’t a complicated experience,” huffed Luke. “You go in and introduce yourself to people and then dance with them.”
“Gay bar etiquette is very complicated and confusing. Do you even know the secret handshake?” asked Reid.
“I’m pretty sure that it’s not so much a secret handshake as it is deep-throating the guy at the door,” responded Luke dryly.
“Um, I’m really not going to be expected to deep-throat anyone just by going to the bar, am I?” asked Kevin nervously. Luke patted Kevin’s arm reassuringly while Reid smirked.
PART TWO
Reid was about a half a block away from The Electric Banana when he saw Kevin leaning against a wall looking absolutely defeated.
“What’s going on?” asked Reid with a very slight amount of concern.
“I’m contemplating the fact that as a non-heterosexual, I’m a complete spazz,” said Kevin. “I want to go back to heterosexuality now, please.”
“Ah, back when you were an asshole with a drinking problem,” nodded Reid.
Kevin scrubbed his hands over his face. “So far this evening, I’ve put my foot in my mouth with every guy I’ve talked to, stepped on the toes of every guy I’ve danced with, and spilled about a half-dozen drinks.”
Reid huffed a laugh. “Well, where’s your gayness tutor? Isn’t he supposed to be assisting you with your grand exodus from the closet?”
“Oh, he’s inside being the belle of the ball. You don’t have to be jealous, though. I don’t mean that he’s hitting on anyone. Heck, he’s not even flirting with anyone,” said Kevin.
“Luke’s not exactly the unfaithful type,” assured an amused Reid.
“You sound pretty secure for someone who has driven all the way into Chicago after a long day at work to hunt down his boyfriend,” sniffed Kevin.
“He’s been texting me every hour tonight and suggesting that I join you guys when I finished. I outgrew the gay bar thing a long time ago but Luke’s pretty, so . . .”
Kevin gave a crooked grin. “He’s been really great tonight. He’s made a point of taking me to a lot of different types of places so I can see where I feel comfortable. So far, I haven’t been comfortable anywhere. Luke, though? He’s made friends with everybody from Leather Daddies to Twinks to Bears.”
“Luke actually likes people,” said a bewildered Reid. “He admires their strengths and accepts their weaknesses and enjoys their quirks. Other than that he’s not too annoying.”
“Since you’re here, maybe I’ll ask to borrow Luke’s car so I can go home and the two of you can hang out,” suggested Kevin.
“Giving up already?” needled Reid. “You know, it’s not like you have to figure out the whole ‘How am I going to live my life as a non-heterosexual’ thing immediately.”
“It’s not giving up so much as beating a strategic retreat,” bluffed Kevin.
“Come on, you big loser,” said Reid. “We’ll go grab Luke and try a few more places until we find one that has a vibe you’re comfortable with.”
Kevin nodded dejectedly and followed Reid to the club.
