I neglected to mention that I went to DC two weekends ago to attend
Arena Stage's homecoming event, which was awesome. The day was filled with
free events (talks with playwrights, performances of all kinds on several
stages and in several spaces, arts and crafts, etc.) and thousands of
excited people. I heard from Marcus Gardley (his new play, every tongue
confess is probably the most ambitious and exciting work of the DC
season), Katori Hall (whose The Mountaintop is probably going to
Broadway with Samuel L. Jackson as MLK Jr.), and Karen Zacharias (whose
Legacy of Light, which is somewhat like Arcadia, I saw at
Arena in 2009). In addition, I saw performances from Kate Baldwin and from
Arena's production of Oklahoma!. In non-Arena news, I also got
delicious Ethiopian food with Ross and his mom. I think I've been to ten or
so Ethiopian restaurants and this one in DC--Etete--is by far the best. I
met Ross's mom's puppy, Elphaba, and I loves her. Yes, loves.
