so, i tried ironing and steaming a reed to see if it got rid of the curve from being in the coil, and it worked. now it is nice and flat. for some reason it just wasn't working out that way in my head because they're round, not flat. moist reeds are surprisingly soft and bendy (i know, duh...but i've never played with them before, so it's new and exciting.) i got a pinking late for my cutty thingie, as i am now calling it. yay no more fraying! too bad i didn't have it when i was cutting out my shift.
