stays--altering the pattern

Jan 13, 2010 11:55

so i decided to make some alterations to the original pattern to get the look i wanted. i made the front 1 inch longer, and i made the point wider. i also trimmed down the underarms and neckline.

original pattern pinned together and traced

original shape and pieces marked in grey

new pieces marked out (yellow=maybe orange=yes)

final lines traced in black

trace shape onto card stock for fitting

and outline

card stock pattern tried on and altered as needed. then i traced the pieces onto it. somehow i managed to make the front piece wider, but it shouldn't affect the shape. i'll just bone it like 2 pieces.

card stock pieces traced and seam allowance added. it looks a little small, but that's what the pattern calls for, 3/8".

interlining cut out

i swear i'm going to finish my shift before i get started in the actual sewing of the stays. today: finish sleeves and begin hem.
