Okay. I haven't done a pseudo-review in a while, but I feel this must be said. Bioware, maybe I'm just conflicted, but it feels quite close to disappointment.
All of your characters in your games had depth, strengths and vulnerabilities in equal measure, that made me love them, even relate to. Andromeda doesn't have that; the characters feel generic, flat, and for lack of a better word, shallow.
Cora's the "badass biotic with a chip on her shoulder." And a potential love interest, only for male pathfinder though. Surprise.
Liam's the "optimistic soldier with a can-do attitude." Hetero love interest, shocker.
Peebee's your typical asari, sexual preferences are nonexistent, because hey, monogendered. Bi? Or pansexual love interest. Yay.
Jaal. New alien. From an entirely new galaxy. Has never met a human. But he likes women.
But I have nothing against Vetra and Drack, due to the fact that I love turians and krogan.
Aside from my favourite aliens, the only other characters that seem to have depth, are the ones you can't fully interact with: Lexi, Kallo, Suvi, and to a lesser extent, Gil (he and Suvi are the only gay characters by the way).
I'm just curious as to what happened. Bioware had created Zevran, Leliana, Fenris, Anders, Kaidan, Cortez, Trainor, Bull, Dorian, Sera. And Krem! God, Krem made me so fucking happy.
What happened, Bioware? I don't understand.
But, I guess anyways, interesting combat system, a little wonky but will probably get better with practice. Travelling between starclusters is kinda tedious, because despite the fact that travel is point-to-point, it just feels needless.
I'm hoping that maybe the characters will get a little more... well, vintage bioware-y. Because their previous games had diverse characters that were easy to love and those that I loved to hate (Loghain, anyone?).
Again, I'm probably just conflicted, but it feels remarkably like disappointment.
