Snippet from "An Irresistible Wish"
--------
The little boy's voice was as crisp as bells ringing, chiming unmistakably from behind Laurel.
"Why do you fear me?"
She knew it was him and did not turn around. It was an effort not to stop walking.
His footsteps were light and skipping. His bright head bobbed into view as he caught up to walk beside her. Laurel swallowed audibly, her eyes still kept strictly in front of her, upon Katrina who was oblivious to everything.
"Leave her alone." She said quietly, her voice barely heavy enough to carry through the air. The boy heard her but did not look up when he responded,
"You don't really care for her."
Laurel did not deny the accusation. "I'm her friend."
"A friend that doesn't care."
"I'm her friend." She repeated as if it were explanation enough.
He was looking at her now, face upturned, impossible not to look down upon. Laurel could not help it. Her eyes were drawn upon the child, unwillingly meeting the impossible blue that was his eyes.
The fear was lacing through her, curling around her legs and making them numb. Yet on she walked, and on Katrina went, never bothering to glance back, confident that Laurel followed. Katrina was always confident in Laurel. It was grown in the knowledge of Laurel's reserved friendship that was a duty she never wavered in. Katrina would lead and Laurel would always follow.
The boy's small hand touched her arm, scalding her with its lightness, yet she couldn't pull herself away. "I think you're interesting." He childishly tugged at Laurel's shirt, trustingly reaching up his arms to be carried.
Laurel was awkwardly bending down to take him up. There was nothing more she wanted than to hold him in her arms, cuddle him and take a whiff of his scent. It was an instinct, motherly tenderness mixed with something much darker. It had overwhelmed her from the first moment she saw him and she couldn't deny it didn't overwhelm her now.
She was giving in and it seemed nothing could save her from him. She wanted the child more than anything.

I am now a part of the LJ community! At last, I can comment un-anonymously, heh. Many thanks to
Mina for the invite! ^___^
As this is a writing blog, all that will be contained here is snippets, ficlets and writer's thoughts. Most likely writer's rambles.
Before that, I need to fiddle a bit with my LJ. ::fiddle fiddle::
