Aww, I love that last image of Andrew falling asleep clinging to James's shirt! You really excell at angst - you even made me feel a scrap of sympathy for Elizabeth, and she's never been my favorite character. I could really feel her frustration in that scene in the office. I also like that James stood up to her, despite understanding her frustration.

Also, I want to give Theo a big hug. And James as well - his premonition in the bath was very eerie.

Also-also, I have to say that I like the touch of James drinking in the middle of the afternoon, and keeping the bottle in his desk drawer. But then, my Jamie is a (functioning) alcoholic, so I would appreciate that. :) I think I read so many fics in the beginning that had James as a teetotaling light-weight, that I rebelled and went for the complete opposite.

*Laughs* I agree with you there Jade, it's good to rebel, heh heh! I think I just can't escape the typical boozy Britain saying, and all that muttering to someone about spending one's retired days down at the pub with a pint...I'm bored, let's go for a drink, lol. That and the fact that every office worker here seems to keep a top-up in their bottom drawer - you get it in the soaps all the time, lol! I can imagine old Britain being the same in some ways for hundreds of years ( ... )

Actually, every book I've read on the subject said that officers often drank just as much alcohol - if not more - than their men, the only caveat being that being drunk while on duty was clearly frowned upon. It was safer than drinking the water, after all. So teetotaling James is a bit ridiculous, from a historical standpoint. That's not to say I see him as a full-on alcoholic, either. I just think it would be impossible for a man in his chosen career to completely abstain, so I always end up rolling my eyes at fics like that. It seems like they try to make him perfect, and personally I find 'perfect' characters boring ( ... )

Funny you should mention that. You might have noticed already, and I know it is terrible...but I have edited/added to past snippet posts quite often, mostly to pan out a conversation or such in the attempt to add depth/further explain a situation which was not worked out fully in the first attempt to lay down the bare bones of the storyline. I have a habit of thinking I can capture everything with simple dialogue, but then think twice after bloody posting, and go back to add something small and nit-pickety, such as...how the speaker said it, as they looked at their shoes, at the wall...I think I ought to take more time and care like yourself. :) I like to push things on, but only looking back do I realise I haven't perhaps teased enough out of things ( ... )

i just woke up so i don't know how coherent this will be. i really liked this installment. (i don't know if you meant the navyboy threesome you wrote to be a part of this particular arc as well, but when i was reading the scene with theo all i could keep thinking was 'what are you so uncomfortable for, he's already seen you naked!' bwahahaha.)

anyway, it was cute to see theo all puffed up with pride like that, that was a really darling exchange. and andrew all cuddled up with james's shirt. :( i want to hug everyone!

i don't know what my obsession is with hugging, sheesh..

I don't know why, and you might think me strange for saying this, but I think there is something very sweet about someone waking up and somewhere on their list of things to do, they end up reading your story. Or maybe I'm just romanticising things...as always, darn that old chestnut! What I mean to say is, thank you for always reading and commenting again, it means a lot to me. :)

Your laughter made me laugh too! But no, no, the uh, purely smut pieces are just that. They're not tied in with the snippet story, or whatever you may care to call it - sometimes I'm not sure if what I write is exciting/grasping/special effects! enough, so the pace/details can be all over the place...I'm not sure. I love writing dialogue, though, and trying to capture the way people behave through it. Whether it's convincing or not, well!

I think it's both healthy and unhealthy to have obsessions...yours sounds nice and healthy to me though! Hugs all around. :D I hope to keep you wanting to hug everyone. :)

I've been away from the fandom awhile but I'm back and this was a lovely installment. I like them both missing each other in different ways. I can't wait until they are together again.

I do hope you haven't stopped writing these.

Hello sunnyrea, it's great to hear from you again after such a while. :) I have been planning to press on with the story for a long time now, only so much has happened, and I never seem to have the chance to sit down and write! I do hope to be able to get more posted soon, so don't go away. ;) Thanks for your support, it is very much appreciated!

I'm so very, very late to the Gillington party, but enjoying it so very, very much! I was full-bore into Pirates fandom years ago, but then fell away precipitately due to unfortunate personal circumstances. But they've resolved themselves and I now find myself with means, motive and opportunity to really enjoy fandom once again.

Gillington is a pairing I hadn't come across before, but I've discovered the delights of Andrew Gillette through the eyes of talented writers like potboy, hms_dauntless, jean_prouvaire and of course wicked_jadeI had found one of your illustrations a little while ago - somehow out of the context of your LJ - and liked it, but I hadn't realized, somehow, that you had written virtually an entire Gillington novel! This series is really, really good and I'm enjoying the hell out of it. I ADORE PotC and RNotC fic authors who actually give a damn about historical accuracy, from basic knowledge of how sailing ships work to the political climate of the early 18th-century Caribbean to how the Commodore of the Jamaica Squadron might really react to the ( ... )
