[Background]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wild_Arms_4http://wildarms.wikia.com/wiki/Kresnik_Ahtreide The 78 year war between the Congressional Knights and the Global Union only ended in the complete anarchy of the world. Though the Congressional Knights won the war for democracy, the representative government that was going to be placed throughout Filgaia (the world) ended in failure. The remaining survivors organized themselves into towns and villages, but they are barely scrapping by with a slim chance of improving their life style. Ten years later have passed with many people being complacent about this situation. Brionac, an elite organization of the Congressional Knights, seems to be the only hope in this wasteland. Kresnik, who holds the position of commander, follows Captain Lambda with nine other individuals in hopes to establish a democracy throughout the war-torn land of Filgaia.
Kresnik is also a Gene Driver, a person that is able to wield ARMs. However, the soldier only got that power through extreme experimentation. Since he lost his parents at a relatively young age, Kresnik and his sister, Yulie, were transferred to the White Orphanage, which is actually a facility where the Congressional Knights used children as experiments to make future Gene Drivers. Since the “hero” of the Global Union was a gene driver and the only known one in existence, the scientists hoped to mass produce heroes to copy his ability to wield ARMs. Most of the kids mutated or died, but Kresnik and his sister were able to survive. Even though he did survive, Kresnik was still considered a failure (since he couldn’t properly form an ARM) and was named WG919F. His sister was a moderate success and became known as WG920B+. After some time though, Kresnik saw that nothing was being accomplished in this orphanage, so he willingly left with the soldiers when they came to pick up a test subject. Before he left, he promised Yulie that he’ll make the world better and protect her in the future.
After going through some training as a Brionac officer, he was eventually named “Pale Rider” and the lance that enforces Lambda’s ideals all by the age of 24. Despite being a defective gene driver, the Brionac officer, Augst, was able to make a drug called LiNKER for him. This drug allowed Kresnik to form one specific prototype ARM, named Howling Spike or XERD_001HS. With his ARM, he fought for his conviction over time...until the order to capture his sister was given by his captain.
Despite being ordered to capture Yulie, Kresnik still followed his captain’s commands since he believed it was all for the future peace of Filgaia. He made sure that the mission was carried out as intended with no deviation from the goal. On one such occasion, Kresnik stood up against another officer in Brionac since he threatened to kill Yulie, although the main objective was to bring her in unharmed. Eventually, Kresnik meets up with Yulie again and asks her to come with him, stating that Filgaia needs her. But before she went with him, Jude Maverick (a boy that swore to protect her) stood up against Kresnik and they battled against each other, resulting in Kresnik losing. Despite losing the fight, he pleaded with Yulie to still come with him, but she declined, stating that she “didn’t want to go with him.”
[Personality]
Typically, Kresnik is a serious and calm commander who takes his duty as an officer very critically. He always follows orders, no matter what the cost, in order to preserve a future for his world. As a soldier, he rarely lets his emotions influence his decisions, making him seem rather detached and almost cold most of the time. His dedication to his position as commander is one of the reasons why he's serious to the point where he addresses everything in a humorless manner. He’s generally respectful to strangers, though he is a bit distant when addressing people. That’s not to say that he doesn’t care about others. When someone needs help, Kresnik is usually willing to offer his help, though he can be hard-headed when he’s giving out a command.
His organization, Brionac, is an elite group of soldiers who are dedicated in bringing democracy to the broken land of Filgaia. Believing in that ideal, Kresnik is willing to lay down his life for that cause. He is known to be the most honorable, but no-nonsense officer of the entire organization. In fact, he is called the “lance” that reinforces Brionac’s and Captain Lambda’s ideas and someone who rarely lets his guard down. That being said, Kresnik can be incredibly stubborn and is difficult for someone to change his mind. However, he is rather willing to work with people, even if he dislikes them, if it increases the chance of success.
Since he lost his parents, Yulie is his only remaining family left. She is his motivation in striving forward through all the hardships he went through as a science experiment and as a soldier. His younger sister is the main reason why he wants to better Filgaia and ensure a future for her. Because of this, she is also one of his main weaknesses. He will do anything to make sure she is safe, even if it means going against the organization that he is so proud of or losing everything in general. Kresnik’s emotions tend to get the better of him when his sister is involved, causing him to have outbursts and be irrational.
Despite being experimented on when he was rather young, it is not the experiments and pain that causes him to be depressed, but being the fact that he is a defective gene driver. Kresnik is angry at himself for not being able to use even his prototype ARM (gun) effectively. This causes him to be jealous of Jude Maverick, a natural born and perfect gene driver. Still, he wants to keep the promise that he made to his sister in the orphanage. He takes promises quite seriously and will usually never make one unless he is sure that he can accomplish it.
Whether it’s because he is young for a commander or considered to be the guinea pig of the Congressional Knights, some soldiers do not take him seriously and dislike him greatly, as seen by the soldier Tony. To prove them wrong, Kresnik tries to prove himself by restraining his weakness in front of other soldiers (with the exception of Lambda) and fighting for his conviction. Even when around others he trusts, the soldier still keeps many things to himself, with the only exception being Yulie. Without a conviction for him to fight for, Kresnik stops believing in himself and becomes unresponsive towards most people. Though it's not directly stated in canon, I think another reason why Kresnik is serious is because he doesn't want to appear weak in front of others. He also wants to make sure that he doesn't let down his Captain and the other members of Brionac.
Underneath his normal personality, Kresnik is a somewhat doubtful man who is unsure about his own usefulness to others, since he feels that he cannot fully protect Yulie due to his inability to fully use an ARM. Being labeled as a defect and a failure by the scientists have left him with low self-esteem. He also has somewhat of an inferiority complex, especially when he compares himself to Jude. Whenever he sees Jude fight, Kresnik tends to see the shortcomings of his own abilities.
In general, he isn’t that well-spoken when ‘comforting’ someone, but he’ll probably listen to another's problems. He’s uncomfortable in social gatherings and usually tries to avoid them, since he prefers his own company.
(Note: I’ll be playing him before he betrays his organization, so he’s still following orders to capture his sister)
[Abilities]
Kresnik has nanomachines in his body due to his ARM, and it’s most likely that they self-replicate. He carries a dagger around, but Kresnik only uses it as a last resort. For transportation, he drives a motorcycle named Javelin. It’s heavily implied by a NPC that he has the ability to drive his motorcycle across the ocean, though it’s never actually seen.
His physical strength is above average, since he was able to knock back a rather large robot walker with his bare fist.
Magic-wise, Kresnik has a healing skill and a support ability that increases his or an ally’s speed and magical/physical defense. He also has a Force Ability known as Lock-On that allows him to hit a target with 100% accuracy and 25% more damage.
Kresnik’s ARM, which stands for Ambient Reorganization Material, is also known as Howling Spike and is the prototype of all the other ARMs. He can form it from ‘thin air’ because it is made of nanomachines. However, unless he has his LiNKER drug, all of his genes are painfully rewritten every single time he forms it. Another side effect is that the ARM continues to devour his body, though that process may be extremely slow or even retract when he doesn’t use it in long periods of time. His ARM is known for its Apoptosis ability and acts like a normal gun, except with unlimited ammo (He still needs to reload, but I think that the ARM draws bullets from the nanomachines in his body. I’m not too sure about the exact mechanics of this).
[Other important stuff]
He carries a music box with him at all times, since it contains a song that is special to him and Yulie. For his LiNKER drug, he will carry pills in his pocket before they run out.
[Sample post]
[First Person]
- What do you think of your home world?
It’s well known that Filgaia’s current state is similar to a wasteland, due to the 78 year war between the Congressional Knights and the Global Union. It’s my job as a commander of Brionac to ensure a future for everyone and bring democracy to the land. …Only when this occurs will Filgaia recover.
- If you could go back home, would you? Why or why not?
Yes, it is imperative for me to return to my duties at Filgaia. This world isn’t a place where I belong and I must remain focused so I can finally leave. To slack off from that objective is not acceptable.
- What were you doing before now?
Following orders, though I cannot specify what they are due to confidentiality. I will not expand on any details no matter how much you ask.
- If someone provoked or attacked you, what would you do?
Depending on the specific situation, I will disarm the assailant, especially if they intend to physically harm me. I do not fall for basic verbal provokes, for they are a waste of time to deal with.
- Would you consider yourself a power hungry individual?
No, what only matters is the future of my world. It’s irrelevant if I hold tremendous power if Filgaia becomes better.
- Someone comes to you to ask for the time. How would you respond?
If I wasn’t on a high priority mission, I’ll listen to what they need to say. …Although if the person intends to just sell me something, I will tell them that I’m not interested.
- Would you consider yourself a hero or a villain? Why? Neither is an option as well, but still tell why.
Depending on the time and perspective, anyone can be a “hero” or “villain.” …Besides, wanting to become a hero is just a dream of a child.
- You are a given a mission. Would you complete it effectively or would you goof off and do something else? Expand a little on the response.
Complete it effectively without any side distractions. The mission must be executed with full dedication; there isn’t any time to be… “playing” around. There are no excuses if I deviate from my goal.
[Third Person]
Still dressed in his military uniform, Kresnik walks around the city, his face stuck in its normal serious expression. Despite the amount of time that the soldier has been here, his general outer demeanor hasn’t changed. He still doesn’t trust a good majority of the people here and though he doesn’t want to admit it, the idea of having his dreams being shown to everyone is causing him great uneasiness.
Dreams are private matters and shouldn’t be discussed without the owner’s consent. But this world… it is not giving anyone much of a choice. He himself usually avoided commenting on other people’s dreams; most of the time he had no reason to. Besides, it is an invasion of their privacy and mostly irrelevant to him. What truly matters is finding a way out of this place and returning to his job at Filgaia.
…And Yulie…
The thought of her made the soldier pause, recalling the most recent encounter with her. It was nothing short of painful, having his younger sister reject him after all their years of separation… for Yulie to choose that boy’s companionship over his. The entire mess wouldn’t happen if he could use ARMs… Kresnik shakes his head, internally chastising himself for displaying such weakness in a public place. Not only that, but in a world that is foreign to him. He just needs to remain focused and keep his guard up around others.
Without pausing, he pulls out his communication device and flips through the messages, briefly scanning and listening through the posts. No, nothing of significance is being reported by others now. It seems that either most of the people are content here or have given up finding a way out… he won’t go down either path. He won’t give up finding a way to return.
[Why do you want to play this character in Somarium?] The setting is interesting and I want to see how well Kresnik will adjust to this place.
[Which rule was your favorite and why?] They’re all fine. Umm, I guess I like the no godmoding rule the most because it's frustrating for me when people do that.
[Where did you hear about Somarium?] From Momo.
[Any questions?] Nope.
