In their defense, Arianhrod is really bad at coping with loss. Those who work in more-or-less dangerous professions--say, the Trickwood's children, or the various navies--tend to be better equipped to deal with it.

For that matter, since I met them all in wartime/war's aftermath, there's also something of a bias towards not-so-copey just based on the sheer numbers of the losses. =\
