I like the fact that Hernén, despite his evident skills and accomplishments, is afraid leery of Arianhrod, especially when she's in a temper. The fact that it is presumably while he is on his own home grounds is even more telling. :D
I rarely see that in most fantasy due to the quasi-medieval setting most have tends to automatically set up a very patriarchal mindset for the world.
I get the impression that the mage-society was forced to be very equality based, if nothing else because the leRouxes have been around forever and are typically short extremely stubborn and dangerous redheaded women. And then Phoebe leRoux married Aifiric Sabaey and said 'Hi. I am Mage and also Queen. Deal.' :)
At least until she gets fed up and starts drawing half-globes around boats in the water and just moving them from the wee!harbour upriver to a different one out of sight of the baroness' keep. Which is faster if much more 'omg starving now render a cow unto me' energy intensive. *solemn*

I'm kind of enjoying the quirks the society's showing in terms of expectations for women. :)

Which my mind is now playing with as the Sun Queen as the forge and the latter queen as the smith.
Erm, probably bed time. -_-

Actually, that kinda makes sense. Nicely done.
