He hadn't been able to remember the third of Joceline Sandoval's horse-masters either,

Why did he want that particular horse-master? Later impressions suggests it might be due to wolf tolerance, and if that is so, why that horse-master?

Neither were they, but they had to agree that touching off a war because they followed him into someone else's territory was gauche.

<3 that line.

As it was, he just had to resist the urge to treat Ganza like the brother he strongly resembled.

Prooooooobbly wouldn't have done good things for negotiations, that.

Dón paid out of his personal holdings but signed his full name

Like that detail.

but after they'd crossed currents twice he summoned a piece of sketch paper and a pencil to show him

This and 'shipworm scrawl' are lovely bits of description.

Ordered a round of beer for them from the staff member he found in the hall outside Ruadhan's suite, to be polite, and waited until the man had walked out of sight before breaking the lock on his little brother's door with two well-placed twists ( ... )

*adds additional header-note re: horse-master*

No, no, treating that horse-master like Ruadhan would have exploded those negotiations very, very fast.

I get the impression that locks and these two are. . interesting. Ruadhan breezed right through a couple back in downriver, uphill, and Dón just broke that'n. It makes me really curious how the rest of the family is about 'em.

*snorf!* Now I have the slightly horrifying mental image of Ruadhan going 'thought I'd left the stove on' and Dón replying 'you DID.'

I'm assuming so, yes--Joveta definitely has an account with that supply company. Not sure if it's her personal one, or one linked to the family holdings, though.

One could make a case--despite the generational gap--for Jared kinda being one of Brighid's, just like Dón and Ruadhan. =\ But yeah, he's Ruadhan's. :)

Donel-and-the-Bordeaux came about in the aftermath of the Rosenthal mess; the pack had been allied with a [family] that was part of the conspiracy, but wasn't actually involved. Aifiric would've banished/punished them, too, since he didn't react at all well to the mess, but Dón interfered on their behalf and they've been following him ever since.

Yup, Thales is Ruadhan's, or if he isn't he really looks like he should be. I don't think Ruadhan would have known, though. As a general rule, the Sabaeys try to at least stay in contact with their kids, but you get the occasional accident/'accident' where the lady wanted a Sabaey's kid but not the Sabaey. Aifiric has a lot of those. >.>

...oh, Donel, you just got played.

:D

Is he reporting the nest because social-responsibility, or is this his way of tagging back with a gotcha to Donel?Yes? (The twins are better equipped to go ( ... )

Yep. He's older than a good half of the acknowledged princes and princesses.

Bordeaux really don't approve of Donel and Ruadhan's relationship. They can't really interfere directly, both for social and physical reasons, but they would really, really like to. Nobody likes seeing someone they like punched in the head, after all.

:) Glad I made your brain happy.

all the round-abouts to find the horse-master, and i like the hints as to thales parentage.

and oh, i love reading about dónel and ruadhan and their constant fuckery. it's a game too exhausting i'd imagine for other people to play, but i'd be worried what they'd be get up to with all the spare pointy if they weren't pointing it at each other.

In their defense, this was several hundred years ago, and none of them are That Into horses. Such a 'wtf was that guy's name? Y'know, fifteen years ago, that guy in the gallery--' affair. I'm kind of impressed they managed it without resorting to the crown employment records.

i'd be worried what they'd be get up to with all the spare pointy if they weren't pointing it at each other.

Yeeeeah. Their dad's in the same boat. >.>

i liked that actually; it seems a bit nuts to think that they'd remember every single person they'd ever met ever over such a long and public life, unless it involved specific 'little black book' spells.

[edit- let's try finishing the thought, k ] they're magical and powerful and long lived, but still human.
