OOC Prompt: Collective Nouns: Rain of cats and dogs

Thorn preferred to shop in inclement weather. While he had adapted well enough to the Twentieth Century to handle buying jeans off a department store rack and making changed, it was all a little easier on days when no one wanted to so much as look at him. Today the downpour was simply too much, and he was driven to step into a shop at random, hoping the storm might let up enough for him to continue on his way. The bell on the door jangled as he stepped, dripping, into the warmth. The shop fell utterly silent, and Thorn cursed himself for not reading the sign on the door.
Dozens of pairs of eyes watched him, of varying shapes, sizes, and heights. Almost uncertainly, one of the adult dogs began to growl. Thorn stood frozen in the myriad gaze.
“Oh, really, he’s just a big softie…” The shopkeeper hurried up from the back, eyeing Thorn warily. “Can I help you, young man?”
Shaking his head, Thorn hurriedly stepped back out onto the sidewalk, where the rain drenched through to his skin.
