first entry in a while (otherwise known as life, soccer, books, and movies)

It's been a REALLY long time before i've written a blog. i tend not to write them because honestly, i would just rather tell you in person or in convo---but i've heard tell that on occasion, people read these things so here goes:

I've started watching Buffy. ALOT. Tanya got me started watching it and after a couple of episodes into season 2, i was hooked. Is it the best show ever? no, in fact i think i'm at a point after it peaked but it's still enjoyable. I got sucked into the universe pretty quick. ive read alot of the comics and have all of season 8 now. Read it but was lost so i'm gonna read it again after i've watched the whole series. i think after that i am gonna get her Angel. I'm sure i can find it online cheap. maybe for our anniversary or for her bday in sept. Yes, i identify alot with xander. she seems to think so.

I think Cloverfield was damned amazing. It wasn't the best thing i've ever seen but it was highly enjoyable and probably the best time i've had at a movie since Superbad. Definitely the most tense film i've ever seen. Ask Eric G. After we saw it, i was tense beyond reason. my ass was sore from clenching it so much and my chest was tight from squeezing the arm rests. I think it was handled well all things considered. It could've been a total letdown like godzilla american or blair witch but it wasn't. it really delivered. i recommend it.

I've been trying to go to the gym and play soccer more. I missed playing this past friday to spend time with tanya and i hang out with my sister but i've been playin regularly. I'm pretty happy about that, i really miss playing when i don't play for a while. The gym has been fun, i always feel better when i go. it gets out that left over energy i have and is healthier. i think i sleep better on days i go or at least exercise.

I've been reading/listening to quite a few books lately. I've enjoyed most of them for the most part or just didn't finish them. I finally started readin the Discworld books and they're pretty damn enjoyable. i read American Gods and Anansi Boys---hard to believe they came from the same author. Same universe, totally different types of stories. Good Omens was fantastic, i highly recommend it. FINALLY read The Stranger...I think to really talk about how i feel about this, you need to get ahold of me. Finally finished Fever Pitch---if you ever want to understand how i feel about soccer and whatnot, read that and then tone him down a bit. Listened to a few radio plays of books, too. BBC radio kicks ass.

weather was fucking gorgeous today, went for a picnic. was really nice. we walked up to comanche lookout and ate some sandwiches then walked back.

Wednesday I drove to Houston for USA v Mexico. I ran into mexican fans all the way there. on the road, in the stores, etc. It was great for them to harass me and to have that feeling "man, they still haven't beat us on our soil in how long?" Yeah, it was a tie and we looked shitty towards the end but still...they ain't done it yet and who has the Gold Cup? oh yeah...US. We looked pretty good in the first half, scored two goals. Whenever Altidore got a good touch, they were really good touches. Guess it's why he scored. The guys playing up top actually looked pretty good and could have looked better if the midfield would've had their shit more together. It's not that we have a horrible midfield. I think whenever Donovan and/or Dempsey play higher in the midfield (not exactly a forward or striker but not exactly playing midfield...think attacking role) we do alot better. Man, what a killer combo Altidore and Ching could be if we tried it. We'll see. Point is, we need more depth in the midfield and on the left side and i think it really showed. We also got a young team. Seeing the D push up and help out on goal (thank you very much Drew Moor of FCD and Gooch) was nice but seein them fuck up two set pieces in a heavily mexican crowded stadium were like kicks to the gut. We had the lead twice and lost it...what ya gonna do 'cept just keep cheerin and singin.

Work is work. i'm making a little more now and i've been applying to grad school. hope i get in somewhere.
