So here's the U.S. roster for the upcoming World Cup:
Goalkeepers
Marcus Hahnemann
Tim Howard
Kasey Keller
Defenders
Carlos Bocanegra
Steve Cherundolo
Jimmy Conrad
Cory Gibbs
Frankie Hejduk
Eddie Lewis
Oguchi Onyewu
Eddie Pope
Midfielders
DaMarcus Beasley
Bobby Convey
Clint Dempsey
Landon Donovan
Pablo Mastroeni
John O'Brien
Ben Olsen
Claudio Reyna
Forwards
Brian Ching
Eddie Johnson
Brian McBride
Josh Wolff
I think that Arena made the right move choosing Ching over Taylor Twellman because, while they both haven't really proven themselves in crunch time internationally, Ching has been having a better season AND had more games in qualifying and in the gold cup. Let's be honest though, unless johnson, mcbride, or wolff get hurt ---ching isnt gonna see any playing time.
the rest of the roster wasnt too much of a surprise. even witih o'brien's shaky career with injuries, its smarter to have him on the roster than to not. I hope they run mcbride and wolff upfront because i dont think johnson is ready yet. if he is though, he'll definitely be up there with mcbride.
I dont expect hejduk to see much time either. that may be the only surprise in the back...and hanehman is gonna see some major minutes in at least one game because how hes been playing lately.Howard is there because he is Howard and he's gonna start in '10.
Our midfield is gonna be fun to watch because they are a little bit bigger than they have been in the past. but they are going up some tough midfields in the czechs and italians---they're gonna be the most interesting to watch.
all in all, i cant wait until the cup starts---it'll be a fun ride because there are some really good teams out there. the biggest factor is gonna be that it is in europe. expect the next cup to be more open. a european team is gonna win...i pick the czechs. if a non-UEFA team is gonna win, its gonna be brazil. i had england pinned as a pick before but now that rooney is out and owen is questionable...who knows. Lets just hope we get outta the group stage. good luck.
