Fathers and daughters (yes, it's another list!)

One way you can get me to love a show - even one that might not otherwise have a long list of other things that make it stand out - is to have a really good father-daughter relationship at its core. (I'm not saying I'd still watch a show that was actually terrible just for this relationship, but … well, I'm getting ahead of myself now.) Since I ( Read more... )

Have you checked out Eureka? There's a nice father-daughter relationship between the sheriff and his daughter. It becomes less important as the show goes on (I believe because the actress went to college) but it remains very sweet throughout its run.

It has been on my list of shows I should probably watch, but I haven't yet. That's definitely another encouragement to give it a try, though!

I think you'd definitely like Eureka and I second the recommendation. Sheriff Carter and his daugher Zoe are very sweet and real.

I also love Ned Stark and his daughter Arya on Game of Thrones but I suspect you aren't watching that one. ;)

Cool. I'll move it up a few spots on my mental Netflix queue. ;)

Heh, nope, not watching Game of Thrones. I hear good things, but also things that confirm my decision not to watch it. Maybe someday!

I don't know that you would consider a comedy for this list, but I was thinking about Bill Cosby in the Cosby Show, and the different relationships he had with the different young women in that series.

Oh, you're right! I love his relationship with all his kids, and yes, there are some excellent scenes with his daughters.

Aw, I miss Lie To Me, although I didn't like Torres or Loker. Cal, Gillian, and Emily were cool, though.

which would make it the best father-child relationship on the show, probably.

Mulder/CSM would take that title, surely?!

Yeah, Torres & Loker weren't my favorite parts of the show. But I do miss it. It deserved to have more than three seasons.

Mulder/CSM would take that title, surely?!
Well, they'd certainly take the title of "most interesting and complicated relationship", but "best"?

"which would make it the best father-child relationship on the show"

ON XF? Not a mark of distinction. Just sayin' XD

I do love Ma and Pa Scully, though. Dearly. Poor people had to see their daughter run off with a man from the Days of our Mulders clan, the most disfunctional family of them all.

Scully has stories of necklaces given in the dead of night at christmas. Mulder has an epic tale of that one time his father swapped his name for his sisters on the ol' alien/government experimentation list, making his mum hate her husband and by extension, him forever because she loved Somontho more. Good times. XD

Then again, his dad wasn't his dad at all, but the machiavelian evil centre piece of the show who continues to destroy everything Mulder loves was. Good times.

Precisely! Scully may have had her issues with both of her parents, but at least they both genuinely loved her and cared for her. Mulder, OTOH... poor Mulder. Heh. Really not a whole lot of good parents on TXF.
