For the past four years, Andrew and I have maintained the tradition of going to get dimsum whenever we're both back in town. He sometimes brings a friend or two from high school so at noon today, I found myself sitting in Seidman's ancient roofless jeep with three jocks (two representing football and the other baseball).
We drove all the way to SE portland and of course, my hair got brutally killed even wearing Andrew's hat. Wong's King had about 30 minute wait for the dimsum so we had to slum it at Legin. The food was mediocre but the lunch table conversation is pretty hilarious. First off, Zach accidentally called me "dim sum". I said that out of all the possible nick names, I probably don't want to be called "dim sum". But Andrew then said "come of Ruolan, you're the best kind of dimsum. you're like... a chashaobao (叉烧包)!"
At this I burst out laughing. The worst fear in any Chinese girl's mind is that they would be called a baozi or a steamed bun since it is implied that a girl who looks like a steamed bun is round and chubby. After explaining this to the three white boys sitting next to me, they went on to ask me how to pick up girls in chinese (typical) and at the end of lunch, they can all say fluently "You are cute", "I drive a fararri" and "I am an abercrombie model".
After lunch, I found myself going with them to the adidas employee store where we met up with two more of our high school friends (both soccer players) whose names I barely remember. Being such a sporty person myself, I of course, got nothing and spend the time being amused at the speed in which Andrew and Dallas shopped. There was no deciding between colors or cuts of tshirts. While an average group of girls would've taken at least 30 minutes to comb through the entire place. We were out in less than 15.
My very jockey and sporty afternoon was hilarious. Sadly, I won't have work next week but hopefully, I'll be dog sitting the cutest little puppy! =)
P.S. They really need to work on their asian Vs, don't you think? lol.
